I'm considering going to school in Australia, but...?

...I'm really worried I'll make a doof of myself. I'm from the US, and I can't imagine that we have the best reputation...seriously, I don't like most Americans!! Is there anything I shouldn't do/say?

Just so you know, I love you Aussies :) Steve Irwin was (and is still) my personal hero.

You'll be fine. Majority of people are accepting of everyone, just like everywhere else. I dont know anyone who has anything personal against americans themselves, maybe just some views that come out in the media. I go to uni and there are plently of US students here and they seem pretty loved. Most of us just love accents and hearing about anywhere but here.

your just paranoid...most people will love you the other 1% are just jealous of you.... so come on over

heyyyy we're pretty laid back
so it'll probably be a good thing if you make a doof of yourself
we all take the piss out of eachother
just relax, lay back, dont take it personally if people tease the crap out of you
its our way of entertainment
:)

I'm sure you'll fit right in with our own doofs. The vast majority of Australians are very accepting of people from other places and take them as they find them. You'll only have a problem if you go around telling everyone how much better everything is in the US.
Please don't imagine that Australians are like Steve Irwin - we're not.

Yes. never accept a lift from a small kangaroo. Take the big red ones because the little ones have trouble seeing over the cars in peak hour.
Seriously though, there is nothing to worry about. Us Aussies are pretty nice and accepting.
There are plenty of americans here studying, so come on down.
Good luck.

We are pretty kind people all up... very friendly eager to help...

Just please for the love of our country DO NOT WEAR AN AMERICAN FLAG SHIRT OR SINGLET!!!

Mel
We like you already.. our joint hatred for America, you will fit in right away.

When it comes down to it, Aussies arent shallow or judgemental and will take you for you not for where you come from.
