See the 'Just Landed' guide for Australia http://www.justlanded.com/english/australia

Also Immigration has put together a list of things to do first when you arrive in Australia http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/settle-in-australia/to-do-first/index.htm and info on settling here http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/settle-in-australia/index.htm

Good Luck !

YES dropbears.
depending on where you are moving to you have to be careful of these they are a relative on the koala.
Basically they are the carnivourous version of the koala they drop on you if they feel threatened.

I'm going to have a bit of a rant here but it's not directed at you.
Don't be like some of the answerers here and tell us our seasons are backwards.
They're not.
They ARE OPPOSITE to the northern hemisphere.

Your average Aussie is very friendly and out going but we don't take kindly to being told we're wrong because we're in the southern hemisphere.
Our accent is not cute, it's just the way we speak.
This Aussie slang page may help you once you're here to get the jist of the lingo.
http://www.koalanet.com.au/australian-slang.html
Don't bother with all the upside down and down under jokes. They won't be appreciated.

Avoid trying to say G'day, just say hello or hi like you would anywhere else. G'day never comes out right when non-Australians say it. I don't know why that is.

Also remember we don't automatically tip everyone for everything. Tipping is rare in Australia.

K Bear, above, always provides good and informative sites to visit ,if you are a new arrival.

Welcome, and I hope you settle in well and enjoy being here.
We really are friendly and welcoming, I'm just a bit grumpy today. :)

If you are from the States;
We drive on the other side of the road,
We use, Celsius, Kilometers, kilograms etc instead of farenheit, miles, pounds etc.

Language is very informal.

Just look out for the poisonous spiders, snakes, wild dogs (dingos) and boxing kangaroos.
Oh and did I mention the deadly blue ringed octopus, deadly white pointer sharks, stone fish and jellyfish.
