I'm moving to Melbourne - is Flinders Street a good idea?

I'm moving to Melbourne in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking at cheap studios, etc. I noticed a lot of them are on Flinders Street. I was hoping for some thoughts on living right in the CBD, there. Is there any reason I might not want to live right in middle of things? Any reason to lean toward outlying neighborhoods?

I like hussle and bussle, and I'm not worried about a little noise.

Any insight appreciated.
Additional Details
Also, I can't pay anymore than 800/week.

I used to live right in the city some years back and I loved it. I off course didn't drive. You won't have anywhere to park your car and if you do you'll be in traffic jams all the time. It's very noisy and a little impersonal. It's a lifestyle thing I guess, people either like it or they don't. You could think about living in the inner suburbs, such as Richmond, Fitzroy, Carlton, South yarra, where your still in the inner Hub but not right in the city. Good luck!!

My cousin had a place in flinders and moved after a few months she hated it there was weirdos around and lots of noise, fitzroys and richmond are better.

If you like the hussle and bussle then go for it!! But it can get pretty busy - especially on weekends ... I guess it is good to be close to everything though. You might also want to check out rentals on St Kilda Rd (just outside of the city) - great location and only a short tram ride to the CBD. Best of luck!

I would say the station end of flinders street is ideal. Near to the city, southbank, Fed Square, St Kilda Road, and all the nightlife and entertainment.I live in the city and love it

It can get REALLY busy on the weekends. But there is good access from Flinders Street to practically everywhere in Melbourne (since you have the train station at your doorstep).

So if you don't mind the insane crowds and noise, why not? It'd be a nice place if you don't mind all of that!

flinders street has its pros and cons its close to everything but u might find it too busy and noisy cos its pretty much the 2nd main street after Swanston

Yeah flinders street is sort of hussle and bussle to the absolute extreme during the day and nights on weekends. Its a bit grosse and tacky too, the streets off flinders street are a lot nicer.

You'll get your crowds alright along Flinder St - the tourists, the bums and everybody else. Being centrally located is the perk but I'd look into St Kilda first. Good luck!

umm i would prefer in the suburb of fitzroy, inner melbourne off smith st and brunswick st
i just thing it would be too crazy the traffic would be crazy there are heaps of drunks and weird people around there

Mel
I'd be looking at St Kilda and Docklands myself, not the CBD.
