I'm not allowed into Melbourne city. Any ways to convince my Dad otherwise? |
The reason this sucks so much is because my friend is moving to Alice Springs and not coming back, and this is like a sort of...Idk. But yeah. I'm going with about 8 other people, and I'm not allowed because it's 'too dangerous'. Help would we really REALLY appreciated. i BEG of you. It needs to be a very VERY strong argument too, Additional Details I'm 13, nearly 14. And mature-ish for my age. We're going to go to Melbourne Centra, and I live in Melbourne. Of course I'm not suddenly wanting to go to Alice Springs :P |

Where do you want to go? Melbourne city or Alice Springs, and most importantly, where do you live?
Additional: If I were you, I'd listen to my dad. I know that sounds harsh, but trust me, he knows what he is speaking of. |

I can't imagine why your dad would feel that Melbourne CBD is dangerous. Perhaps it's because he feels that some of your friends are likely to play up and do stupid things. Melbourne is a very safe city and I would let an early teenage girl go there without any misgivings whatsoever, but perhaps there's something you haven't told us about your friends or what you want to do? If you agree to a curfew time and if you also agree to check in by phone, say, every hour, maybe he'll relent.
Never forget that he's not simply trying to make your life difficult even if it seems that way sometimes. He is concerned for you and these days, you can't blame parents for worrying about their 13 year olds. I know you believe you're mature and you may well be, but there's no substitute for real life experience and you dad just wants to make sure that your early experiences are good ones. Love him for that!
EDIT:
I've just checked and I see that Melbourne Centra is accommodation. Are you wanting to stay overnight there? If so, get real!!! No parent in their right mind would allow a 13 year old to do that! |

Tell him that there is eight of you, and without becoming angry or frustrared, ask him what he thinks is dangerous, then, tell him how it's not actually dangerous! everything in life involves danger, &the city is fine. Maybe meet half way and say you will text him every hour, and if something bad happens, then you'll never go again! |

I've been all over Melboure and I mean all over. Unless something has drastically changed, it's still a safe city. Just watch out for the trams, they don't beep or have flashing lights when they start going the opposite direction. |

How old are you for a start? Parents will be very protective over you if you're young. What are you going to do, this group of you? If you give us a clearer picture we may be able to advise. |

Melbourne central?
Dude that place is safe as, I go there all the time. But I understand if your parents don't want you to go..cause its the "big city" and you're only 13.
Just explain that you won't see her for ages, and that you really want to go and that you will be mature and responsible and take a phone etc.
Also, say something like "when have I ever lost your trust? there is no reason to stop me from going"
Thats what I did when I wanted to go out to dinner in the city with friends lol.
Good luck.
If they still don't let you go, then just go, I mean...you won't see your friend for ages and punishments don't last forever. |

Say i promise I'll be home by....
and avoid taking the train in because alot of parents think trains are dangerous
why dont you get him to drop you off and pick you up
say you guys will stick together and your friend knows her way around the city.
but what's his argument?
say you'll constantly have you mobile phone on
and a good argument is we're the second most livable city in the world, we cant possibly be that if we're not safe
and that heaps of people move here (eg british people) for a safer life |

almost any place anywhere in the world would be perceived as "dangerous" for any 14 yr old. set a time with your parents and have someone THEY trust pick u up and drop u off to the house. Your parents are probably just scared you'll take the train. Honestly, it can get creepy esp when its late and its empty except for a few drunks...though there will be police everywhere......and hopefully u wont miss the last train and wiat til 5am for it to come back :) .....what can I say, you need to bargain with your parents...that's the best thing..... |
