Haven't lived or worked in Perth, only Sydney.

Expect the unexpected, very hot summers and very wet winters, clothing should be natural fibres only (cotton, linen etc) as man made fibres far too hot to wear.

Men are a shortage in Oz, so you won't find an ozzie male doing the wooing and cooing routine that you might be lucky enough to get in UK, and chances are you won't get any chasing you either.

In Oz you will observe it is the women that do the chasing.

But hey just sit back and watch for a months you will get the hang of it.

Of course things may be a lot different in Perth.

Generally Australia is a relaxed, fun loving country, I have found the Australian people to be very positive, speak what is on their mind (no point in taking any offence should someone express a different viewpoint), just accept that people do think differently.

It is not unheard of for UK people to be called winging poms - that is because we do complain when we think things are not right.

Ozzies have a more laid back attitude to life,
"she'll be right" - "no worries" - generally a much healthier attitude to life and living.

A good lifestyle - income good - cost of living low.
Price of houses and cars the most expensive items.
Driving left hand side. Lots of BBQs, parties and if you go to Sydney a New Year to remember for the rest of your life.

Would recommend.

Depends upon your skills, which you have not communicated.

If you have skills needed at mines, there is a shortage of mine workers in WA and QLD.

My g/f is from Perth and she always carries on about how wonderful it is. She would tell you that you have chosen the best state in Australia to move to but remember it's the most remote as well.
A great public transport system but housing is very expensive. The people are very friendly and the city is very clean and beautiful. They have the best beaches in Australia.
I am sure you will enjoy living there as much as what she did :-) ......Sorry to hear how frustrated you are in regards to the process you have to go through but once you get there it will have been worth the wait!

The earlier comment about very wet winters needs correcting. Perth rainfall is not high, but most of it comes in short bursts as cold fronts pass though. When it rains, its often heavy, but doesn't last very long.

Summer temperatures are commonly 30 to 35, with some periods in the 35-40 range. Exceptionally it may get into the low 40s. However, the humidity is very low and therefore it doesn't feel anything as bad as say 28 degrees in London or other near coastal European places might feel.

Perth is fairly isolated, the next nearest capital is Adelaide and thats around a 2.5 hour flight. Internal distances between towns of any size are huge compared to Europe. You can drive North for 1800 kilometres and only pass through two towns worth speaking of. However, that space is what WA is all about, although 90% of the population still try to cram themselves into the coastal strip around Perth..

I'm from Perth, have lived there since 1991, (apart from a 6 yr stint in the UK). Perth is a great place to live, only problem is we're being over-run by whinging Poms.

My advice would be to move to Sydney, we have enough Poms here already ;-)

The price of housing in Perth is skyrocketing, up 30%+ in the last year. Perth is a lovely city and I have enjoyed my visits there. Its big problem is that it is a very very long way from anywhere else.

Don't take anything too seriously, especially yourself. Australians are the best at taking the piss out of ourselves and our friends. You didn't say where you are coming from but I would hazard a guess Australia is a more relaxed, easygoing place so just relax and enjoy the best country in the world.
Make sure once you are settled you do some travelling and see the rest of the country.

Looks a lovely place. Worked with a chap from Perth- always tried to give me the impression he was ever so macho. In actual fact was a complete pr*ck. His IQ was not even into double figures- so hope you don't run into him- although he seemed pretty representative of the country
