I am flying to Australia in 7 weeks (Sydney) has anyone got any tips, advise? i am 25yold female?

Oh yay. I love sydney, thats where I live. Spend as much time in and around the city as you can. Visit the beaches, especially bondi beach. Go on tours for young people and have a ball. Where are you coming from? How exciting for you! Stay close to the city if you can where it is all happening....visit Sydneys zoo which is a ferry ride from the city so you can see some of our native animals and some beautiful sights from the zoo too. Spend time at darling harbour, a fabulous place. ride a monorail, if you don't have them where ever you live. And WELCOME...HAVE FUN!!!
BTW that person who wrote spend your funds coming to Melbourne..don't believe it. There is far more to sydney than the opera house. I hate Melbourne. It's cold and boring, where he got the weather thing from I do not know but sydney is way warmer than melbourne and it's cold and rainy there.

BTW I would not go to campbelltown as that person below advised. I live near that area but it's not the nicest of areas to go on a holiday.....and it's out in the 'burbs. Not much to see.

I'm from Sydney, and really, you don't need much advice - it's not that different in terms of daily life than the UK (although, it is much more calm than London), and it's very easy to turn up your own and quickly build a network of friends. I would say, if you can afford it, make sure you live/stay somewhere fairly close to the city - anywhere in the Eastern Suburbs (Elizabeth Bay, Potts Point, Paddington, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Bondi, Bronte etc) or the inner West (Balmain, Glebe, Newtown, Annandale, Petersham etc), or lower North Shore (Neutral Bay, Cremorne, North Sydney, Kirribilli etc) as they are more populated with young people and lots of others in your same situation (plus loads more fun than way out in the suburbs) - so you'll find it less lonely and easier to meet people. There's a great website called Flatmate Finder - http://www.flatmatefinder.com.au/ where you can find someone cool to live with - it's free.

The weather should be warming up by the time you get there, but don't do what every other Brit does and only take shorts and T-shirts to live in Aus - while it doesn't get as cold as the UK, it still can be chilly in winter. And, have fun!

Depending on where yopu will be living and what your occupation is then you can get jobs to suit your experience! And you just need you and clothes and if you need anything else there are shops that will have anything you need Sydney is the greatest place to live (I'd Know, I live here)! Public transport is close at all times! Jobs wise, places like the hard rock cafe at darlinghurst, other eateries etc. hire backpackers and train you up! (I have afew friends that just moved here and got jobs at places like this) so enjoy!

Oh...and don't watch "Wolf Creek" before you go because you may change your mind!

Are you flying from the UK?

Try and swap your seat for the aisle seat, then you can get up and walk. I was 16 when I flew to Australia, I went alone to go live with my Uncle for 5 weeks, and I was near the window and I'll telling you I had to get up alot during the flight.

Also, buy some Pro Plus. And as soon as you get on that plane, change your body clock, only sleep when the Australians are sleeping, and vice versa on the way back. I had no jet lag, Just 1 VERY good night sleep :D

1 more thing, if you're stopping in Singapore, go shopping! :D

stay hydrated and drink lots of water about a week before or you'll jet lag...that means you'll feel like your moving real fast when youre sittin still

Utilise your funds better by going to Melbourne. Cleaner city, sophisticated and cultured, sports mad, interesting weather. Apart from an old bridge and the Opera House, Sydney is fairly ordinary.

Its a beautiful city. If you are flying for good, try living in suburbs like Cambelltown, pretty cheap, and friendly place to stay. Well connected by road and train. I have stayed there for 2 years. If going just for a few days, stay in one of the YHA hostels and you will find very nice friends there. You may contact me any time to get more specific information...
