Depends where you're going to be.
I think the best answer is to wait till you get here and see for yourself. I hope you enjoy visiting us.

Time 1.30pm, Sunday.
Melbourne - 12C/54F
Sydney - 16C/61F

Er be careful. The stereo type is that its always hot and dry... well i live in melbourne outside my window the trees are basically being pushed over. It's windy! It's cold, yesterday it rained. So do bring a rainjacket because weather is often unforeseeable!! |

If you really want to fit in with the natives it is best to wait until you get here and purchase a Kangaroo skin to wrap around yourself. That way you won't stand out and no-one will know you are a tourist (tourists are often seen as the enemy) |

Will it be cold in Australia? I would get there and then go shopping. It stands to reason that they will offer the clothes that people wear this time of year down there, as opposed to you spending a lot of money in Cali and end up having wasted it on the wrong types of clothes. |

The weather varies greatly in different parts (like the difference between Aspen and Florida). If you go to Townsville or further North it is tropical (Cairns, Mackay, Darwin, Broome, Gulf of Carpentaria), so you will not need much (maybe a light cardigan at night). As you go further south it will get colder. Between Harvey Bay, and as down far as Byron Bay you will need light long sleeves during the day (unless you are in the sun and away from the wind). At night and in the early hours of the morning it can be quite cold (so have a light jacket available). When you get around Sydney you will need a jacket and a scarf as the wind gets really chilli blowing off the snowy mountains. Melbourne, is colder yet again (they get snow on occasion) and Tasmania is the closest that we get to the south pole so rug up. Perth and Adelaide weather is similar to Melbourne. Also remeber, that the further inland you go, the colder it gets in winter (likewise in summer the further inland you go it gets hotter). I couldn't tell you about everywhere in Aus so the link below is from our burea of meteorology and has a climate zone map that may help you out. Just bring what you have clothes wise. If you need more you can go to Target for something cheap but durable (they've got good prices and the USD will take you further) or anywhere else. Shopping is great here. There's even great designer shopping. People come from all over the world to go shopping here (especially Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Gold Coast). You won't have any trouble buying clothes.Have a good holiday. |

But Why??

Billabong or Rip Curl Jacket will do. Its illegal to wear any others. Also bring helmet , it is drop bear season here at present, and more than normal amount of drop bears are in mating season. |

I'm not sure-but my friend just went and he said to be prepared for rude koreans-apparently (he said) none over there understand the concept of a line and will just go directly to the front and jump ahead of you. |

Here, this will help plan your trip. http://www.bom.gov.au/
Its a big country and it can be snowing in one part and blistering hot in another part.
Pretty much what you wear in California will do for most of Queensland and Western Australia and Northern Territory travel. |

It's Australia, you don't need no sweaters. It's humid and dry out in Australia right now. Just wear what you wear in Cali. |
