Sorry to disappoint... no snow here in Sydney.

We have had an unusually hot March, so as far as predicting the weather is concerned its hard to say.

Based on previous May temperatures you'd definately need layers, a good jacket & closed in shoes. Jeans are a must!

Have a good trip here :-))

Where are you from? I am from California and was living in Sydney a few years back during the months of April- December and May's weather was the same to the month of November in California. Days were always sunny, a bit chilly in the shade, and for a short period of time it gets a bit overcast like, with a quick sprinkle, and just as you start your way back home for a jacket, it would clear right up. This happens daily, so remember to have a jacket of some type, not a heavy winter coat, but a hoodie type.

Angela
May in Sydney would mean winter, which means scarves, thick jackets, trench coats (w00t!). Snow is only for the mountains.

If you want to find snow it won't be in Sydney, but if you go to Thredbo or around there you will find plenty. we have a mild winter and the weather is still really warm here. So have some clothes for warm and cold then you will be prepared.

Beanie
Yeah its winter and by the end of May it will be quite cool-cold! Sydney average temps for May and June (becoz end of may will be somewere in between the two months averages:
May: 19.4 Degrees C Maxima (69 deg F), 11.5 Degrees C Minimun (53 Deg F) and about 9 rain days per month.
June: 16.9 Maxima Degrees C(62 deg F), 9.3 Minimun Degrees C (49 Deg F)
about 8 and a half rain days!
So no snow is gonna fall in sydney , but up in the mountains it most likely will! The official Ski season though doesnt begin till the 9th of june! Hope that helps! Cya Enjoy your holiday :)

may is winter but it does not snow there. It occasionally snows high up in the blue mountains or your other option is jindabyne.

" Sydney enjoys a temperate climate with a mild winter, and has more than 340 sunny days a year. "

I don't know where you get your information but to say Sydney has more than 340 sunny days a year needs a very fanciful definition of "sunny day". Sydney is the wettest of the capital cities after Darwin and May has an average of 122mm with 9 days getting more than 1mm of rain. Sydney averages more than 100 days a year with more than 1mm of rain.

You will find the complete climatic averages here:

By the end of May, winter will have settled in so it is the beginning of the cold season.
the nights are rather chilly but the days are cold.
It also depends on where you are coming from if you are coming from a cold country you will find sydney's winter very moderate.

As for snow, as they all told you you need to drive around 5-6 hours from Sydney for snow.

nah, it doesn't snow in sydney unless you're goin' to the mountains... yeah but it's gonna be winter by that time, so bring lots of jackets...
