When I visited the red centre I spent 3 nights at Yulara and 4 nights in Alice Springs. There is so much to explore there.

Take trips to the gorges of the Western and Eastern MacDonnell Ranges. Glen Helen, Ormiston Gorge, Standley Chasm are great.

In Alice visit the Flying Doctor Base, the Desert Park, Adelaide House Museum which was the first hospital in Alice.

I spent one day each at Uluru and the Olgas, it is really worth to take your time. You can take a Camel tour from Yulara and much more.

Between Alice Springs and Uluru Kings Canyon and Hermannsburg are also woth a visit.

The Outback is just beautiful with so many wonderful places to visit.

Depending on your flight schedules, allow a full day for Alice Springs -- visits to the Flying Doctor's facility, the telegraph station and the school for kids in the Outback are worthwhile and provide a good overview of Australian history and life in the Outback.

Alice also has a good assortment of shops, with pricing less than in Sydney. More than a day there, however, will have you wondering why you're there.

Some excursions offer a stop at Kings Canyon on the way to Uluru.. King's Canyon is definitely a good stop especially if you like to hike and explore.

Allow another full day in Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock) -- a guided tour around the base of the rock will provide insight into the history and indigenous people; the cultural center has interesting exhibits and displays; and the Olgas are the most sacred site -- but the area is extremely expensive and definitely not somewhere you would want to stay just to lounge by the pool...

Enjoy DownUnder!

I would think at least 3 days in Alice Springs, and 2 days at Ayer's Rock (Yulara).
I stayed at the "red centre" for only 2 1/2 days total, and it wasn't quite enough time to see the beautiful sights there.

Well since your up that way, you should stop off at Darwin and see Kakadu and all the beautiful national parks with waterfalls.

I would spend no more than a day at Uluru. Walk around the Rock and take a trip out to Kata Tjuta. I would spend at least 5 days in the Alice. Lots of stuff to see there.

Alice Springs is a really nice place to visit. There is a few art type places around that are worth a look at. Also, find some of the walking tracks and just wander around. It is such a strange town you can spend hours just people watching.

Ayres Rock is amazing. Allow yourself time to see AT LEAST one sunset and one sunrise over the rock. The colours are amazing and breathtaking. The bush walking tracks around are great too. Take your time and enjoy it! You may never get there again!

APT do a great 3 day tour. Fly to Uluru. Day1 afternoon tour and see the sunset. Up early next morning to see the sunrise, then onto Kings Canyon. Early next day visit Kings Canyon, then onto Alice Springs. The tour finishes here but you could orgainize your flights and stay for 2 days. Visit The Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air,Anzac Hill, The Desert Park, The Telegraph Station by booking a half a day tour. Time to look around Alice before leaving the next day. For basic clean accommodation in Alice try The White Gum Lodge. For a couple with shared accom its about 1145 dollars. Shared accom is all you need. On this tour you are on the go all the time, not in your accomodation. I think 5 days is ample time
