G'day,

OK... this may be a bit tricky to understand and mind you this information is a 2nd-hand info, so you will still need to verify this to the Australian Embassy/High Comm closest to where you live.

Assuming that you & your family got your residency visa, you & your family will need to come and settle in Australia first. You can then apply to sponsor your mother to come & stay in Australia. The tricky part is, the immigration wants to know how many children that your mother has to provide them with the 'balance'. If she has more children residing outside Australia, then her chance is small. If she has more children residing in Australia, then her chance is better.

If your application for your mother has at least passed this early stage, she can be given a Temporary Residence (TR) while waiting for her application to be fully approved for Permanent Residence (PR). This can take years and from my 2nd-hand info, it could take up to 10yrs.

Now the important question is: Have you apply for migration visa yet? There are 2 ways to do this:
1. Apply directly thru Australian High Commissions/Embassy nearest to where you live to choose what category of immigration that you want to be. This is the cheaper way but you will need to understand all the requirements and preparations by yourself. A bit difficult if your English is not very good.
2. Apply thru immigration agency. They can make a preliminary assessment of your chance to emigrate to Australia. If you have enough point, then they will help you to prepare the documents and what to do/say during the interview. This of course come at a cost, but for some ppl it is money well spent. Some agents that I know reputable are as follows:
immigration@nevile.com.au
adrian@wklawyers.com.au

Hope this helps. Good luck on your application and welcome to Australia :)

Where are you from? Immigration to Australia can be very hard. They are very picky, and will often only take people who have very desirable skills.

Probably but you need to contact the Australian Embassy and ask what steps you need to apply to request to immigrate.

I knew a Veterinarian who wanted to immigrate to Australia and he was not accepted because they didn't need any new Vets. But his wife could have as she was a teacher and they always need teachers... So... They couldn't move there because he did have a needed occupation.

Rushmore 223 is correctl. it is VERY difficult ti emigrate to Australis. You must have a job skill that is needed there...and these are usually obs that require high tech, high educational levels. I have a friend who is an aeronautical engineer...he was granted a work permit, but the process took over 3 years. You can go to the websites below to start your research. Also remember, cost of living is rising in Australia, and every country has its own probems. The grass is not necessarily greener .....

A friend of mine brought their mother out they had to guarantee to pay the first $10,000 of her medical expenses and I am sure she can keep her pension some of it at least depending on where you are from.Good Luck .

If you are the only child or you have only one sibling you can...It means balance of family test..your mother should have more than half of her children permanently residing in AUstralia.....for example if she has three children two of them should have permanent residence of australia....more than 50% of her children should be either permanent resident or citizen.....

There is an Australian Immigration newsgroup with a whole bunch of people who could answer this question. I'm sending you a link to how to set that up, good luck. :)

tuppenybitz
there is a lot to concider
it depends where your coming from and if her pension can be paid if she lives in australia so she has means to support herself
immigration is very difficult unless you have a desired skill or family to sponsor you and your family,
you need to see if you meet the point system to qualify for immigration

rozybb
If she is dependant on you then yes, she can come.
This page from the Australian Immigration Department website will help you:

Kindly check Australian immigration website. There is a provision for elderly people but first you will have to get the immigrant status after staying there at least for three years. Then you will be eligible to apply for your mother, and it could take several more years for approval.

Billybean
Short answer - No
Long answer - Maybe later

It might be possible to bring her later under the various "sole surviving relative" type of provisions, but if you are accepted as a migrant, it would (probably, again) include your spouse and children, but that's all at that stage.
Check out the Australian immigration website at
www.immigration.gov.au
