I have never been but I have a question...,,,? |
does australia have a public transit system for people who dont drive cars. if they do, what is it called and how much does it cost to use it. like here in america, washington dc where im from, we have a system called metro. it consists of bus and train service. i think the train costs about $1.35 to get on but the price gets higher depending on where you get off at, and i think the bus is about the same price
just really curious |

We have a train service & a bus/coach service, but I have no idea as to cost as I don't use them.I think you can get daily excursion tickets fairly cheap which take you anywhere in the allotted time |

Do we have a public transport system? We are Australia, not Mars!!
We have buses, trains, trams (in some cities), light rail (in some places), taxi's and ferries. All are run by different companies as well as Government run. Prices will vary from state to state and from service to service. but generally, the further you go, the more you will pay. Also, some buses that take you around the CBD in cities are free to encourage people not to take their cars into the city. |

Sydney has 3 million people living there honey! *sighs and thinks of little words to use* Australia is around the same size as Canada, okay , really really big! All the different cities have their own public transport, yes we have trains, buses, ferries and in Melbourne trams. They all have different names, just like they would do in the States. Australia is not a developing country, our cities are just like any other city, drop you in the middle of Melbourne, Sydney or even Brisbane or any of the other large cities, and you can't tell it from any other western city. And, sadly, in my opinion, are getting more and more like every where else, and less and less unique. |

You do realise that you have just reconfirmed to EVERYONE the general feeling that Americans are sooooo parochial and ignorant.
In Melbourne (NOT Florida!), you can buy an all day Metcard (student/child) for AU$5.60. And that gives you unlimited travel all day around Melbourne... out to about a 20-30km radius. And it doesn't matter whether you use a tram or a train or a bus. It covers the entire network. So our public transport system sounds cheaper than yours. |

Yes our cities have trains, buses, ferries, trams, and other light rail, depending on the city. I can't tell you the prices either, but it would probably be more like $3-4 for a train trip I think, and cheaper if you buy multipasses. |

I think you already have some good answers, but let me clarify.
AUSTRALIA is the same size as continental USA. We are a bloody big country, we can hardly walk it! |

yes there are trains/buses/trams/ferry's/planes
& if all else fails we just jump into a pouch of a passing roo
cost depends on distance traveled |
