I live in country Australia and have only ever seen a couple of snakes in 35 years...they are more scared of us and if left alone wont harm you...I do lots of snorkeling and diving and have never been attacked by a shark or jellyfish and I have never seen a blue ringed octopus. That's not to say there are not out there, they just are not as commonly seen as you guys are led to believe.
I am not in crocodile territory, they like the warm waters up North and do not live in the wild down South. Having said that you are more likely to see jellyfish up North as well. Actually the Northerners also have the Funnel Web spider and deadly Rock Fish. Hmmm perhaps you better come down South...you will only have the drop bears to worry about then.
Come to think of it, I've never seen one of them either. I'd be more worried about the damn flies and mozzies...they are IRRITATING. |

dont worry..in the USA you can get in a car wreck shot with a gun..[junkies on every corner] killed by a terrorist..car jacked.hit by lightning or tornado...eaten by a shark or alligator.or picked up by homelang security and sent to gitmo bay never to be heard from again...go,,,enjoy |

& yes we have enough critters over here to keep all the stupid people where they belong.....(AT home)..
your obviously not one of them...your smart enough to ask
so the real answer is............theres more chance of your plane crashing than of you getting attacked by the critters

you don't annoy them & they wont annoy you. read signs on beaches or ask about stingers before going in the water & ALLWAYS SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS

In Venezuela, where I live, there were 15.000 homicides in 2006, 90% of them unsolved, and we're only 26 million. When I move to Australia in June I'll be glad to deal with snakes rather than with criminals out here. |

Nevermind all that, it's the drop bears you really need to watch out for, nasty claws on them. Ask any Ozzie, they all told me not to worry about the snakes, crocs, big eagles, spiders, stingers, rockfish and, octapus; but, that I should really be worried about the drop bears, vicious things. |

My mother knew someone who was bitten by a spider. That was before the Second World War. I have never known anyone who has been bitten by a spider, a snake, a blue ringed octopus, a box jellyfish, a shark or even a drop bear. No-one knows anyone who has been attacked by a drop bear.
OTOH I have known three people who have been killed in car crashes, all of them more than 30 years ago, and one who died in a parachute accident. So what do you reckon is more dangerous?

we're not all bushfolk. we have cities where deadly creatures do not live. i've lived in Oz all my life n have seen red-back spiders, huntsman, snakes and all but i've never been bitten or wateva. don't hurt them n they won't hurt u! |

The danger from wildlife in Australia is no worse than any other country in the world.
In the cities and towns you have as much chance of coming face to face with our snakes etc as you have of seeing a grizzly bear in L.A.

THese things are nothing compared to the drop bears, they are a bit like koalas with rabies they bungy jump out of trees and rip your lungs out before you even have a chance to scream. |

Australia is not nearly as dangerous as you seem to think it is. Like most other countries there are animals that can harm you but unless you go looking for them you will not find them. I have never heard of anytime suffering a bite from a blue ringed Octopus and Snake attacks are not common.
Like other places all that is needed when coming to Australia is a common sense attitude to its environment. |

Yeah, the spiders n snakes are thick but I beat 'em back wid a big stick!
Seriously, I saw more rattlers in an hour in Texas than I've seen spiders or snakes in seven years in Australia. I ONCE walked up on a two foot snake inadvertently here, went another way & simply don't use that path anymore!
It's a rare occasion to see wildlife & doubtful you'll even git to see a kangaroo or a koala either, especially if you're in a city such as Sydney or the Goldcoast.
Parisites are not spiders n snakes. Tapeworms come from improperly cooked pork! You've just as much chance of getting that where ever you are!
Something? Yeah, you'll surely get something!

Where are you planning on going?
They won't let you swim at the beach if there are deadly blue octopuses (octopi??) hanging around to sting you. They'll have a big sign up that says "beach closed - stingers".
Snakes are only around a lot in winter, and they're more prevalent in the country. They won't suddenly slither out of holes in the road and bite you...
And bugs? Like mozzies and flies? Just get some Aerogard, mate... :P
I've lived in QLD all my life. I camped on a beach up north - no crocs ate me. I lived in a country town - no snakes bit me. I swim at the beach every summer - no stings...
But I agree with everyone else... it's the drop bears you've got to be careful with. |
