I have looked at some of the replies you have received and most are BULLSH*T.
Dangerous animals don't roam the city streets, Kangaroos don't hop down the main streets of our major cities, maybe some small towns see them. The only snakes and dangerous animals would be in zoos or theme parks,IE Steve Irwins Australia Zoo, a good place to visit.

Dangerous spiders won't bit you if you don't bite them!

If you have been here you will know that Oz is not a backward place and most of the American Rubbish food is available here.

All the major city's have good places to dine and party ALL NIGHT, and have for many years. I am 63 and I can remember them from when I was young.

We haven't had an TERRORIST bombing, or any attacks by them.
I bet if you asked some of the people who answered your question they couldn't find Oz on a world map!
Although I am a son of an American, I would not live in that country for a million of your dollars!!!!!!!!!!

Australia is a good place to raise a family and when you get old you can become a "Grey Nomad" and safely wander this wide brown land.
If you love beaches we have some of the best in the world. Lots of open space and beautifully bush land.

I would check visa arrangements before you got your heart set on living here because they are extremely hard to get.
I have lived in both countries and the reason I'm in Australia is because of the little things that contribute to the overall standard of living. Health care, university education, things like that are so much cheaper here.
When I came back to Aus I couldn't get over the effort cities go to in order to be pretty. Little things like landscaped median strips, beautiful suburban parks, flowers in the roundabouts, mini gardens everywhere... sounds corny but believe me, it makes a difference.
The USA still rocks though! You would miss it a lot if you left.

Culturally it is not that different from the US. Everything is on a much smaller scale though eg cities are smaller, lots less services like shops, transport etc. It is fairly sparsely populated which means that it is less busy than the US but also means that there are large distances between cities. The lifestyle, even in a big city like Sydney, is more relaxed, probably more like California than New York. Biggest problem is the distance from Europe and the rest of the world - can be quite isolating and difficult to travel. But the best thing is that it is amazingly beautiful - Sydney Harbour on a sunny day glistens like gold.

Come 4 a holiday. I'm in a country town near Mildura. (200ppl in my town).

Each states different. My favourite city (I've only ever being to Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney) and I enjoy Hobart the best. Tasmania's off the mainland of Australia.

if you have been here you would know ,if haven't before you immigrate your silly, come for a holiday and see if you like it

if you come here you should go to sydney more specifficly north sydney the restaurants rock, the surf does too. australia has hot summers so if you hate the cold thats good too. altho please dont go round saying stuff like "G'day mate" NO ONE says that here

His Divine Shadow
The pros is that it is a democratic country with similar language to the US and the same kind of freedoms we enjoy here.

The bad news is that there are way too many poisonous and outright deadly critters over there, like that red spider thing, those brown snakes that can kill you in 30 seconds, and cassowaries!! =8-O

The climate and the lifestyle are unbeatable. Australia has everything the the rest of the world has, but (except for some things like international cuisine and canned tuna) usually less variety than in the US. Australia is generally safer and health care and other social services are good.

On the downside, the cost of living is higher than most US cities (clothes, housing, food, cars, utilities, public transport). Australia is a long way from everywhere, so vacationing takes on a new meaning.

And...getting a visa to stay might not be easy.

the big difference in U.S and Australia is that there's no other country like U.S...i have travelled and lived in few...the general difference would matter depending on where ur in US cause aussie love a cool life...with peace...not much of a rush...hardly any crime...sydney is a exception in all this.. rest u pay almost 25% of ur income in taxes but u do get good welfare benefits against it so that balances it...extraordinary weather and pollution free environment....great place to travel and nice people to live amongst...
