Our accent and slang are unique.
Around 40% of the population have at least 1 parent born in another country.
Australians are very proud of their convict heritage.
Australia has compulsory voting for all levels of government
Our native animals are unique.
Australia is the driest settled continent (Antarctia is dryer, but isn't settled).

The following website has heaps of unusual facts that you may find useful:
http://www.convictcreations.com/culture/facts.htm

The source is for the population stats. because no one ever believes that the OS born parent numbers are so high.

There is a good chance that the oldest surviving bit of art in the world is in a rock shelter somewhere in Australia.

We are the worlds largest island and the worlds smallest continent, we are a multi cultural nation with many different religions and races, all living together, we are still part of the british empire, our indigenous natives the aboriginies own a large slice of the country (mostly desert land) Uluru also owned by the aboriginies is leased out so people can visit it, we have proof that dinosaurs existed in australia, that tasmania was at one time attached to australia and was called van demans land and when it separated was named after its explore abel tasman same as the tasman sea, we are the largest exporter of wheat, rice, sugar, cotton etc., in the world, there are so many things that make us different, these are just a few to get you started, hope this helps, goodluck! :)
