Wow as an American who has lived in Florida, and travelled through out Australia....and moving to Sydney in 2008.

AUSTRALIA! :)

Nothing compares, the amazing coastal beaches (and least 30 in Sydney alone,)unique wildlife, blazing landscape (the soil is red,) friendly laid-back of attitude of many...

In many ways Florida reminds me of less populated areas of New South Wales, but in the same respect some things you can expect in Australia that you cannot have in much of Florida:

.clean beaches
.lack of street violence...oh and...
*.nationalised* almost free healthcare (once you are a citizen.)
.safe schools

Best of luck in whatever you chose.

PS. As a word of warning: emigration is tough and takes ages, I am coming over as a student/teacher and have been working at this endevour for months---but it will be worth it :)

I haven't been to Florida so I can't comment on that, but the Gold Coast does have a pleasant climate, low crime rate, and a booming economy.

For all those Americans commenting on immigration: I hate to break it to you, but it's not so easy to get into Australia, either. And yes, there ARE people in the world who'd prefer to live in Australia than the USA. No offence to those Americans who aren't so arrogant - I've visited the USA many times and have many American friends and family - but boy, do I get pissed off when I encounter that minority of Americans who assume there are only two kinds of people in the world - those who live in America and those who want to live in America. I get asked nearly every time that I visit "so can you get a green card?", like that would obviously be my goal in life. When I say that I don't know and haven't applied, I often get a shocked "why not?". It's just so bloody clueless...

Anyway, enough of my ranting: good luck with your decision!

Donna - Have you actually been to the Gold Coast?

Why would you want to live there? Its a tourist trap. Thats it.

I can think of about 50 places in Australia thats better to live in.

Having been to both,I'd definitely say the Gold Coast,as Florida is great fun and lovely to visit, but remember, there are tornado's,hurricanes,etc.,etc.Also there is less crime in the Gold Coast.Good luck wherever U move. :)

Let me just say this. Florida is the place that handed George Bush the Presidency. It is a very corrupt and lawless place.

I am sure there are better places in the USA than Florida, there are certainly better places in Australia than the Gold Coast. I wouldn't live there in a fit. I live in northern NSW inland from the coast about two hours from the Gold Coast - and that is close enough.

JOE :)
i think Gold Coast. because Florida has ALOT of HURRICANES AND STUFF LIKE THAT and the weather is just yucky

I just got back from Orlando - I was there on business. It's very humid, and I got caught in a major thunderstorm while driving back to my hotel. That night there was a tornado watch all over the news, and I was so ready to leave.

I live in the other fabulously sunny state (California), so I may be a bit partial. Our weather's gorgeous, but we do have earthquakes (haven't had any in a long while, though). We'd love to have you here :o)

you mean better-Florida I like a lot but wouldn't want to live there permanently because of weather dangers.Gold Coast would be fine.Anyway how come you think you have a choice? How would you get a visa/work permit to allow you to live/work in USA?-you can't just choose to 'emigrate' there-are you a US citizen?

I would say USA is the best destination for migrants in the world. You will succeed and achieve more,
