Acceptance is based on a points scoring system, which looks at age, health, occupation, etc.
Go look on the Australian High Commission website.
Keep in mind that Australia is a country with a fast rising crime problem, and serious water shortages. |

Having a skill that Australia is short of (eg, a trade, nurses, construction etc..) is a bonus, makes it easier for the 'point system' and for visas.
Point Calculator - http://www.workpermit.com/australia/point_calculator.htm
To give you an idea on what skill shortages are in Australia see http://www.workingin-australia.com/info/463 There is a list of them. Also the immigration website - http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/index.htm
Australia has more opportunities for Nurses - meaning there is more $ and bonuses if working out in the rural-remote aboriginal communities.
Then of course you could always work for the Royal Flying Doctors service! An aeromedical health service for those who live, work or travel in outback and regional Australia.
http://www.flyingdoctor.net - they have a link to Nursing vacancies online.
More info http://www.flyingdoctor.org.au
Are in the UK ? - there is EXPO's coming up very soon there. If you have a skill Aussie is short on they may offer you a job there and then and may even help pay your way. Immigration is there to answer all your questions also.
See http://www.expo-australia.com
Immigration for Australia - http://www.immi.gov.au
How to Live Here - Step-by-step guides to procedures and paperwork
http://www.justlanded.com/english/australia is a great guide that explains things in plain English, applying for visas, working or as an international student etc…
Each state also has their 'shortage' of skilled workers and may vary from state to state. Again view each one, or the state you were thinking of moving too for more info.
Western Australia - http://www.migration.wa.gov.au

Than prepare yourself for an 18 hour flight.
But, in truth, both Australia & New Zealand DO have so many opportunties with good salary -- that are not available, North of the Equater.
...and they are dying to have immgrants -- there's a LOT left to do, down there.
Good Luck :-)

Trade can be hairdresser, baker, butcher etc not just doctor. Look at the area/district you wanted to migrate to as they may have particular shortages. There are loads of sites that you can do a quick assessment for free to see if you are eligible. Good luck and go for it. |

To get enough points to qualify for an unrestricted visa you really do need to be in a profession that is in short supply in Australia. My husband is a bricklayer by trade and has enough points, but we started the whole process 16 months ago and have just had our medicals and police checks, we think we still have about a 2 month wait, we are a family of 5 and it has cost us just over £5,000. So its not a quick, cheap, easy process, which on one hand i'm glad about (look at the problems that has caused over here!) but on the other....come on...I just wanna get over there! |

Australian immigration works on a points system which is available on the Australian High Commission web site. It is getting a little bit easier as the Commonwealth Government and individual State Governments realise they have skill shortages for example in many of the trades you mentioned and are actively encouraging native English speakers to go. There are any number of agencies with web sites who can advise you on your chances. Good luck it is a great life. |

Dont take notice of Hibee, he is talking S**t. Talk to an Immigration officer at Australia House. Nurses are accepted, but you have to be qualified. You can also get a stiudents Visa. |
