I want to go tanning in Melbourne, Australia but its not enough??!?

im going there for vacation this summer. im white but i want a good natural dark tan. they say its the highest risk of skin cancer if you stay out for more than 15 minutes.

how can i tan then?- how long can i stay out in the sun (with sunscreen on) without getting skin cancer???

Long before you get skin cancer you will burn - and badly. The Australian sun in summer is harsh and can easily give you second degree burns - blisters - before you are aware of it. By all means go in the sun for short periods but don't go for long exposures. When not swimming or whatever, sit in the shade, wear a hat and put on a shirt. Reapply the sunscreen, 30+, after swimming. You will get brown but don't try to do it all at once.

By the way, people with dark suntans are looked on as rather stupid in Australia. Most people go for no more than a light brown or gold.

Why do you need a tan in the first place? The tan gives you a good chance of cancer. Being out in the sun doesn't mean skin cancer unless you an excess of it. You need to be out for more than 15 min to get a sun burn which is where the skin cancer comes in. Enjoy your vaction, and forget about the tan.

You need to look up Clare's Law in reference to Clare Oliver who has just campaigned against tanning from her death bed and died last week of skin cancer.

Get a spray on tan before you go. No skin damage. Then while you are there, use sun block while you lie on the beach so you don't burn. My cousin died of skin cancer; it's no laughing matter to protect yourself from the sun. And a friend of mine has a tanning salon in Glen Waverly (outside of Melbourne) that is doing poorly because so few people there want to get tans. She does more spray tan business than tanning bed business.

Have a great and SAFE trip.
