I want to go to Sidney Australia next year has anyone been and if they have do they have an itinerary?

We were there two years ago for Xmas into the middle of Jan

We stayed at the Mercure Hotel on George St which we found was an ideal location. Central Station just outside and buses to Bondi etc one side and the Harbour the other (although it's only about a 10-15 min walk if you fancy)

Would definitely do the bridge climb it was great.

Doyles was our favourite for seafood - a little bit more expensive than other places but oh boy it was worth it - you get there by ferry.

i lived there for a few months about 10 years ago. hotels won't be cheap. The wine region is well worth a day tour. It is the Hunter Valley.You can go up the Harbour Bridge no problem. Go also on a day trip to the Blue Mountains. Manly is a lovely coastal suburb of North Sydney. Darling Harbour is very nice. Always lots of activity and festivals going on. Have a good time.

stay at billabong gardens in newtown ( a bohemian suburb) if you fancy an affordable place to stay which will show you an aussie welcome.
you should not miss the ferry to manly as it takes you right past the opera house (best views at night) or the express ferry/ catamaran to watsons bay followed by a walk along the coast to south point. magical.
never done the bridge walk but feel there is so much more to australia than things like that. try to get a feel for the aboriginal heritage there and look for the alternative side of sydney. try the website for 'active sydney' - search that on the web... you will see many community orientated events that you could attend to get to know the human side of sydney better.

Hi I went to Australia early this year for three months, you will love it there. In terms of hotels I couldn't tell you much because I was staying in the cheapest places possible because I am a student. The Rocks region which is close to the Harbour in Sydney has lots of really good hotels.
You will be able to book a tour to go over the bridge very easily once you are there.

LIved there for 7 years. Queen Victoria building, Circular Quay, Harbour Bridge (walk over top - yes, climb it under guided condtions), Toronga Zoo, Paddington, Opera House, beaches, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, aquarium.

Watson's is good for seafood, but you'll pay for it. Try anywhere else and you'll probably be lucky and it will be half the price.

Spell it that way and you will not need an itinerary because you will never arrive.

i personally would try manly for a hotel although they are not going to be cheap, doyles is best place for sea food, its a restaurant down by the harbour bridge and the opera house, area called the rocks... i would suggest the blue mountains are worth a visit, hunter valley for your wine tasting, a drive up to the northern beaches, palm beach where home and away is filmed is worth wile and also the markets in bondi, you can pick up some nice pressies there. take a ferry from darling harbour or circular quay over to taronga zoo.. the botanical gardens are a great place to just sit and watch the world go by, with the company of the local fruit bats hanging from the trees..
you will enjoy what ever you do in Sydney.( there a lovely family run b&b on manly wharf, great accomadation , bit pricy at about 120 dollars a night but it has lots of charector and is in great location, cant think of name of it though, sorry.)

You can get good price hotels in the rocks i think and also along pitt and george streets. Avoid kings cross - very tacky. They also have the travel lodge equivalent over there, check out some websites. When you get to Sydney you can do organised day trips out to the hunter valley (new south wales wine region), and also of Sydney itself.
But a better idea for Sydney is to buy a sydney pass. You can get 1 day/3 day/7day passes. They allow you to travel free on buses,trains, ferries in the Sydney area and also get on the sight seeing hop on/hop off buses that have commentary.
That way you can spend time at the places you want to see rather than being dragged around by a tour guide.
They have good seafood restaurants down by circular quay (near the opera house) and also by woolloomooloo wharf. But expect to pay tourist prices.

i been to Sydney 2 years ago. walked the harbour bridge takes about 2 or 3 hours for the whole trip, along the walk they will tell about history and info about the bridge, enjoy the view as well its really great.

wine region wise you can go to hunter valley there are lots of wine to choose from, just don't get drunk lol. not sure about hotel as i was staying with a friend at that time. seafood restaurants you may wish to try Sydney fish market, freshest seafood you can ever get and its at a very affordable price too.

Enjoy your trip there, talking about it makes me wanna go back again next time, cheers

Walking over the bridge is fine it only takes a half hour. The nearest wine region is the Hunter Valley it is approx 2 - 3 hours drive. Doyles is the best sea food restaurant in Sydney. Accommodation there is heaps.
