If you are only going for a few weeks or a few months, you don't need a VISA.
Buying a plane ticket gets you a VISA Waiver.
This is a 3 month temporary VISA.
I've been to Australia 3 times from Florida. |

The difficulty of getting a visa will depend on you country of citizenship, and the reason that you asre coming. USA, Canada, UK and lots of others have visa waiver prgrammes for tourist and short stay business. If you want to work, or come on a working holiday, you will need a visa.
www.dfat.gov.au may have information. Otherwise contact the Australian embassy or consulate where you live. In fact, you should not trust this answer and contact the consulate or embassy anyway. |

If your going for a holiday you will need to obtain a 6 month holiday visa from the Australian Consulate in Dublin or London, this is free of charge i believe and will only take as long as the return post to get.
If your planning to migrate you will need a migration visa, this costs a lot of money (about 2,000 Euros for the application depending on the type of visa applied), you will need to pass the points test (115 points for a pass), and have your qualifications assessed in Australia, the whole process take about 9 months from start to issuing of the permanent resident visa.
The website of your nearest Australia Consulate will have all the information you need. |
