it is winter time over there. but it depends on the purpose of your trip. It is beautiful over there during the winter too. but i guess you are going for vacation, so winter time wont be a good time for you to go...

in Australia (southern hemisphere)

* summer begins on December 1,
* autumn on March 1,
* winter on June 1, and
* spring on September 1.

June - August is, of course, our winter. It depends what part of Australia u want to visit. I live in the north where it's tropical and if u visit here in the winter, depending where ur from, of course, tourists love it. They treat our winter as summer. But further south (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide etc.) it does get quite cold. No snow though, unless u go right down to Tasmania or up into the mountains. I wouldn't say its a bad time to visit, especially if ur from a place where it gets very cold.
Have a good trip if u do choose to come here. I'm sure u'll like it.

It is winter time in the southern hemisphere that time of year.

It's a beautiful time of year over all of the country actually. It's our winter but that's nothing like a Northern US or European winter, anywhere.

Anywhere north of about Grafton, NSW will be reasonably warm for most of that time (Brisbane has maximums of around 70F and Cairns about 80F for much of the time). If you're doing beaches then that's the area you need to go (Qld Islands for example)

South of that you do more wintery things and rug up a bit. Sitting in quaint restaurants sipping a red wine in front of the fireplace or taking a stroll on a deserted beach is beautiful. Adelaide is superb in Winter with it's vineyard districts surrounding it. Then you have Canberra/Snowy Mountains for ski-ing (Australia has more acreage of ski-fields than the whole of Europe - though they're not the same standard)

Tasmania is beautiful (and cold) at that time but make sure you have warm clothes and accommodation.

Hope that helps!

if you were to visit australia in June to August, it is definitely recommended to go to Blue Mountains as people there hold an annual yulefest celebration from june to august. It is a must experience celebration in Australia that you surely don't want to miss.

If you like winter time its a good time.

No good, if you come in July your time, its November here, the year 2011. Also because of global warming Uluru now has a small surf at the base of it. Hard to get in without chains.
