Several suggestions
1. It is cheaper to fly into Perth or Sydney than the other Australian cities, so fly to one or the other.
2. Join the YHA before you go (youth Hostels Association) - they have excellent, cheap, safe accommodation all over Australia. You will meet plenty of folk just like yourself. The owners are all local people and a mine of information on obtaining seasonal jobs, places to go, places not to go. They will usually give you a free ride to and from an airport or train/coach station as well.
3. Before you go open a Nationwide Bank Account and put all your money in their current account. Use their debit card to withdraw cash in Aus, you will get 4% more A$ to your pound than anyone else can offer, plus no fees at all. If you have a Nationwide Credit card, you get the same high rate of currency exchange, and with a direct debit payment mandate, your monthly bills are automatically paid for you.
4. You will love it.

Hi well depends on what city ur landing at,Brisbane on the Gold Coast is one helluva good place to chill n relax n enjoy,Sydney well different place very scenic keep u busy, Melbourne really is great place for everything..
Adelaide is quiet town but historic old buildings
Perth well small long way from other cities etc

I dont like the thought of people travelling alone, I couldnt do it. But I know a lad that did it and that was about 10 years ago he travelled all around australia and loved it, met his now wife and they live in new zealand. I have only ever holidayed in australia but it was amazing I loved it we stayed in New South Wales that was nice!

wow you wanna work in every city! that's ambitious :D
i'd suggest starting with sydney. it's going to be very hot in january so at least sydney is on the coast, on the beach.. and it will be lots of fun!
or queensland (brisbane, sunshine coast or cairns for a very tropical setting)
or melbourne (much less humid and cool as in awesome)

look into finding some share accommodation online.. look for students. stick around some young people they should take care of you!!

have fun :D

perth is beautiful but it's f**king hot here 40degrees plus in summer on some days
and if you get a chance go to broome western australia absolutely beautiful also australia will kill you its actually more unforgiving than iraq in some places people crash cars in the middle of no where and all we find is skeletons 2 months later so if you want to go bush carry heaps of water 1 gallon or 4.5L per person per day and read up on your survival

but if you follow the rules it's amazing people aren't as laid back as they used to be especilly in sydney or melbourne it's getting americanised no offence to the yanks
i've never been too queensland but mum has if you give me some more info on sort of what sort of stuff you want to see and do i'll be able to recomend some better stuff and give you better advice

Coming to Australia on your own would definitely be ok. As long as you use common sense with safety and things are properly planned out as in, accommodation etc. A few cities I would suggest is Perth, it's not as big as the other cities over east but is still nice. Also Sydney and Melbourne, and the Gold coast/Brisbane. I believe that you would experience Australia's city life in those places. If you want more of a Country experience I would suggest south-east of Melbourne or The Northernn Territory. You will be able to gain most employment, depending on what job you're searching for, but thats just my opinion. Good luck!

Hello!

You'll be fine on your own! Travelling around Australia is an amazing experience! You'll have to get a working holiday visa, which shouldn't be too hard if you have sufficient funds to support you between jobs.

I'd start with Perth. It's a lovely new city, clean and friendly. And as it's a new city, they'll be lots of jobs!

Good luck to you!

Im going with work to Brisbane for 6 months. Im not worried, its an easy country to get by on your own.
