Your first concern will be getting a visa to Australia. you may VISIT Australia for up to 3 months with an ETA ( electronic visa you can get on line. ) See 1st website below to read entry requirements for Australia. Getting a residence or work visa to Australia is another story. It is VERY difficult, you must be highly skilled in a job area in which they need people, and even then it takes several years. See second website to begin your research on applying for an immigrant visa to Australia. |

Best suggestion would be to do a bit of backpacking around before you settle on a city (personal experience!). Personally I love the beach so the best city for me would be Sydney as it has beaches on its back door (and a good nightlife). If you like cafes and pubs (live music), and don't mind occassionally bad weather, Melbourne. Brisbane is smaller but it's in Queensland and has warmer weather. Darwin gets stinking hot and has a monsoonal season. Not too sure about Perth except that it's on the west coast and thus quite a distance from everywhere. |

Can you give a bit more info. Do you like it hot, tropical or a state/city that has four seasons? |

A lot of Americans (thousands) from Texas, California, New Orleans, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico are living in Western Australia, from what I am told the climate is similar to some of those places. Most Americans I have met are living here in WA and have done so for years.
Check Perth out, its not as big as Sydney or Melbourne, but its not as sleepy as some would have you think. Lots of space, more work than there are workers, so if you have solid trade skills or are a professional, you could make some really excellent money, then move on to explore more of the country.
Its a big big country, with all the climates on one continent, similar to the USA in size, but totally different attitudes. More people are arriving than are leaving, so come check us out.
Just remember to bring your sense of humour! |
