Think very carefully about why you want to move to America. Do you think it's going to be exciting like a movie or TV show? Do you think all the exciting stuff happens in America? To tell you the truth, the job market and economy in the USA is in the gutter right now, it's very hard for many citizens to pay the bills. It will be a million times harder for you. There are lots of other places in the world to move to, you know.

$45,000-$50,000 in Australian dollars or US dollars? You've got a lot of saving to do if you're only an apprentice carpenter now.

Miami or LA... HAHA those are like the worst places to live for most people! Well, they are on opposite sides of the country from each other, but one thing they have in common is that they are very spread out so you NEED a car to get around. Public transport is absolute sh1t. I don't know about LA, but driving in Miami is terrifying. Also, at lots of places in Miami no one speaks English. It's fun to visit and imagine you're in another country, but living like that all the time would get tiring.

To live in America legally or a long time you'll have to have a working visa. To get a working visa, I think you have to have a job lined up before you come to America. There are plenty of Americans who work as carpenters. My advice to you right now is to stay in Australia, go to college or get a specialized degree, and THEN apply for a working visa.

And if you do end up moving to the US or another country, ALWAYS keep enough money in the bank to buy a ticket home in case things go bad!

Why do you want to move here when you live in such a beautiful country?? I wouldnt move to LA or Miami, they are **** holes and over populated. Try Dallas, TX.

You will need a passport, and a resume.

oh and Miami.
(flooding means buissness for you)

You obviously have a few roos loose in your top paddock. You would be smarter to do your apprenticeship here so as you will at least have a worth while trade behind you and one that these days once qualified will guarantee you a fairly hefty income.

You will be unable to drink until you reach 21y and what is it you plan to do for work over there? You can't as far as I know transfer your apprenticeship. Having said that, if you think a 1st year chippies pay sucks wait until you get to the US with no skills and no University education.

But it's your decision and if you believe what you see on TV and in the movies go right ahead. I am sure that you will be on your way back and begging your parents for the money for the first flight outta there after not too long.

That all depends if they let you in in the first place.

Been to both glad to have this wonderful country to come home to. LA is a filthy smelly S**THOUSE unless you wanna live in Anaheim and work at Disneyland cause the rest could burn tomorrow and it really wouldn't matter.Miami is nothing like what they show on CSI or in Miami Vice dude stay here the air is clean the people are friendly (mostly) and we have the best beaches in the world. And how does a first year chippie save 50K? maybe you would fit in

u know
everyone in american is fat and stupid and ur more likely to be a victim of crime.

take that into consideration

I am very confused as to why you would want to live in either of those places compared to ANYWHERE in Australia? As the others have said - Miami and LA are horrid dirty places. (Trust me - I've been there). I am not kidding when I say that the sky is actually brown. And so are the beaches... more of a grey actually. Even the grand canyon was a dissapointment to me. Now if you wanted to go to Canada I would be quite happy for you!!!

As far as getting over there you would need a passport and visa. And I would also like to know how you are supposed to save 45-50 grand as an apprentice?
