Watch out that you don't mail anything that's prohibited by Australian law. They are paranoid about foodstuffs being sent into the country. Lollies/sweets/candy might be okay but check the link below to ensure they comply with the regulations - or your friends will never get them. And yes, don't send chocolate - imagine the melted, gooey mess !!! |

Don't bother sending Willy Wonka brand stuff, Darrell Lea sells it here. We are also snowed under with gummi junk! Seriously I don't know if American chocolate would be to Australian tastes - I had some in November when I was in San Francisco and it tasted really sickly. Why not send something like a souvenir of the US instead? |

the sniffer dogs will probably find it & it will be confiscated and destroyed. there are very strict quarantine laws in australia. |

You can send chocolate. I send chocolate to my husband in Iraq in care packages all the time, and he says that it gets there fine. I always put it in a Ziplock bag, though, in case it does melt. I do send it priority mail, though, which takes about five days. Or you can try M&M's since they're encased in a candy coating.
Try something unique that you wouldn't see there. Some that come to mind: Hot Tamales, Milk Duds, Abazabba, Ike & Mikes, Good & Plenty (even though I hate them), Lemonheads, Nerds. |

If it's anything like the UK, the candy will have familiar names, but will be totally different. I would suggest just buying one of everything you like and sending them that. They can do the same back, and you've started an international candy war.
Candy wars are fun. I'm in the middle of a fierce battle with my friends in England. Even if we send the same stuff over and over again, it's still a lot of fun. (Bounty Bars absolutely rule! Sooooo much better than Mounds!) Plus, you can ask for extras of the stuff you liked. (Just don't eat the black ones, if they send you "wine gums". The black ones are extremely GROSS. lol) |

It is hard to say because we don't know what we don't have. You should list some of the popular and sendable candy (lollies) and we can tell you what we don't have. I know from watching TV that Americans have something called Twinkies so if you can send that. We won't know unless we happen to hear or see them on TV. If you like you can e-mail me and I can tell you which ones we don't have here. |

all candy companies like hershey's, nestle etc. are all billion dollar companies who ship their candies internationally so what you see here is what you see over there, with some minor exceptions |

Funny you should ask, I sent a box of goodies to a friend of mine not too long ago! :) Here's what I sent that isn't available in Australia:
Hershey bars
Resee's cups
Nutter Butter cookies
Bubble Yum or Bubblicious bubblegum
Pop Rocks
Pixie Stix
You could also send American non-chocolate classic candies (if you can find them) like Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Rolls, Necco wafers, Chiclets, Boston Baked Beans, Lemonheads, Bottle Caps, Red Hots, Laffy Taffy, Gobstoppers (and other Willy Wonka stuff), Nerds, and assorted gummi candies (like sour gummi worms).
Try some dollar stores, they often have the strangest products you can't find anywhere else! Have fun shopping! |

I am Australian with an American friend, so I have tasted many american candies (we call them lollies). Regarding a previous response we have skittles but the main thing is as stated by another respondent, things such as chocolate bars will have the same or similar name but taste totally different and to honest I would avoid the chocolate, Australians dont actually like American chocolate, sorry. But anything you do send you must declare as pointed out by another we have very, very strict quarintine laws, and if you declare it generally is able to come through. |
