my kinda boyfriend was bought up in europe until he was 9, he then moved to new zealand and now lives in australia. talking the other day he was saying how much he used to love ready brek but cant get it there, i wanted to send a box over, but what are the laws on this/ would it be allowed if i decalred the food items at the post office

The chances are it would be allowed. Australian law prohibits raw food such as raw meat, fresh fruit and veg etc. However, Ready Brek will have been processed. Consequently, there will be no diseases or bacteria in the food. You will need to declare it when posting. Australian Customs will open the package regardless of whether you declare or not. However, Customs are allowed to destroy the package if you fail to make a Customs declaration. It is simply that the package will go through customs if you declare it.

I know this from experience as my parents used to send cooked Indian snacks from the UK to Oz. They were always opened by Customs but they were delivered. The only time the snacks did not get delivered was the only time my parents did not declare them.

No don't send it. We have very similar here and so so many cereals he can have fun trying them all and will probably find one better, The postage would be ridiculous as well

How dare Gillian suggest that its ok to smuggle food items into Australia!!? The reason you cant send cereals and grain products here is because it can introduce pests into our crops! Quarantine is vital to the safety and welfare of our home. Please respect our laws, if your boyfriend wants his favorite cereal then he can visit an english food shop, they are everywhere these days.

I doubt it, you can't take food through customs at the airport, we got questioned loads about why we had brought some harvest crunch bars with us, they were confiscated

mine
u cant bring it to the airport, but yes, u can mail food.. however, law permitting, they may open it and see if it is ok, it will definitely be checked (not touched or opened close to the food) like through metal detector and other things like that, though. It will get to him. good luck :)

Products such as redy brek would probably be allowed into Australia unless there is a specific problem with any of its constituents.
For example, cloves and products containing cloves are not allowed in due to a particular disease ("clove rust" I think the customs person called when I brought some massala powder back from India last year) which affects cloves elsewhere in the world but is not present in Australia. Special treatment is required on them.
However, we do have many breakfast cereal products in Australia, and although I have never looked for redy brek, it is quite possible that we have instant breakfast porridge here.
Your BF may find that should he try it now as an adult, he is sadly disappointed from his fond childhood memories.

i don't think you'd be allowed

♥Gillian..
Conceal it well and don't declare it.

I've sent food before and brought it back from Australia. They have yummy food that you can't get here and vise versa.

They just send it back if they don't allow it, and you won't get into trouble.
