I have been told the capital, ottawa is great because most people still think sydney or melbourne are the capital, so they flock there on holidays. So ottawa is your better bet than melbourne.

If you like site viewing than come to Sydney.Bridge climbing, Opera House, Blue Mountains just a train away, nice beaches, friendly people, Whale watching and dolphins and good nights out.

OK, with regards to the first answer, Ottawa is NOT the capital of Australia, Canberra is the capital of Australia, and Ottawa is the capital of Canada!!.

Melbourne is a great city if you like dining, bars, clubs, parks, beaches - it has it all

Newcastle i was born in sydney but raised in newy the beaches are awsome the people are cool. and by the way the capital is canberra in the a.c.t(Australian Capital Territory). do come visit australia its an awsome place to live and even just visit.

Ottawa?!! Ottawa is in CANADA!!

Sydney is the place to go. There are plenty of things to see and do and it's not as parochial as Melbourne. It's also close to other interesting places like the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley, Southern Highlands and the North and South Coasts of New South Wales.

I love Melbourne. It has lots of beautiful cafes and great nightlife...
Lots of unique Little shops and places to visit. It’s such a lovely place to be. Not as fast paced as Sydney – no ‘rat race’.
Is incredibly beautiful. Lots of Museums, and places of interest and is a very beautiful city by the river. Melbourne is also credited with having the Best Coffee in Australia and was voted ‘the worlds most liveable city’ for maybe 3-5 years in a row!

Visit www.thatsmelbourne.com.au

Also Melbourne is close to the Great Ocean Road and places like the beautiful Dandenongs….
Lots of culture in Melbourne! Oh So fantastic!

I love it more than any City I have ever visited……!

You say not too "outdoorsy" but everyone has told you to go and see the beaches and mountains !!!

If you don't want to go outdoors don't come to Aus. Indoors its just like any other country and you can choose any city, they're all the same.

Perth is on the West Coast of Australia. Beautiful beaches. Never been but have been told by those who have gone or live in Australia that it's a great place to visit.
