If I am white and I live in Australia, could I technically be called an aboriginal European? |
Or indigenous European?
Because, well surely, If an Aboriginal Australian was living in Argentina, he would still be an aboriginal Australian because that's his race.
So, I should be an aboriginal European even though I live in Australia.
What's the difference? Additional Details So Europeans can't be called indigenous?
Doesn't indegenous/aboriginal simply mean the original race. So my race, caucasian are indigenous/original race to Europe.
Doesn't that make me aboriginal European?
I don't see how this is a racial insult |

hypothetically (actually an interesting question), you would be whatever your heritage is, it is not enough to say european, as europe was made up from several different groups.
for example, if english, you may be celtic, if greek you would be Minoan Crete.
Homo erectus- penetrates to the western extremity of Europe by about 500,000 years ago, so you could call yourself an aboriginal homo erectus.
Indo-Europeans conquered Europe: from 1800 BC.
The first Indo-European tribes to make significant inroads are the Greeks. They move south into Greece and the Aegean from the 18th century BC. gradually other tribes speaking Indo-European languages spread throughout Europe. From an early date Germans are established in Denmark and southern Sweden. Balts settle along the southern and eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Tribes using an Italic group of languages descend into Italy. Across the centre of Europe the Celts move gradually west through Germany into France, northern Spain and Britain.
The Slavs moved into the region of Poland and western Russia, between the Vistula and Dnieper rivers. The Scythians establish themselves in the area to the north of the Black Sea.
So, this is actually a very interesting question. If you know exactly where your family came from, and know that they had lived there for thousands of years, then you could claim you were an original aboriginal of that area (Of course many people would think you had lost the plot).
I found this webpage of Celtic tribes, I would be classified a Turoni (River People) from Austria. |

I now call myself a Scottish Australian!
If American born black people call themselves African Americans then it is surely OK for me, a white born in Oz, to call myself a Scot Oz as both sides of my parentage came from bonny Scotland! |

No.
If you want you could be called "anglo-saxon" or something like that but I don't really see the point. It depends where your ancestors are from in europe too.. |

No, you're an Australian the same as the rest of us.
Personally, I loathe labels such as Italian-Australian or anything else.
We're all Australians, it's simple.
Edit: To quote you - "at the end of the day I have a question that needs answering and you aren't doing your job."
And exactly what job would that be?
I'm not being pc.
I've already given my answer - No you are not an Aboriginal by definition.
See below.
aboriginal - original or earliest known; native; indigenous.
If you are not one of the original inhabitants then you are not an aboriginal.
How many different ways do you need to have it explained? |

You couldn't call yourself Aboriginal European if you lived in Australia. This would mean you were an indigenous Australian living in Europe. The correct term would be a European Australian (or some other country - Australian). Even using the correct term you would not call yourself that in Australia. Australians don't use Americanisms like African-American or Hispanic American. Australia is an egalitarian country where pretty much everyone just says they are Australian. We are one country and prefer to not to divvy according to race. Aboriginals in Australia are called just that or they are called Australians. It is up to them which they choose to use. If you are living in Australia and are a citizen of another country then you are called by the term for that nation - european, Italian, British whatever. Here we call a spade a spade and don't tread softly around what we really mean. |

No you are not indigenous and your question is a massive racial insult.
Where were you born? If in Australia, then you're an Australian. |
