You forgot to include 'the following' but Greenland is the next largest island so that is presumably the answer.
EDIT:
Australia is very definitely an island. The fact that it's also a continental land mass has no bearing on that. How could it not be an island? It is completely surrounded by water and is wholly occupied by a single country.
And to the person who said I have no idea. Mate, I forgot more about Australia in the last 5 minutes than you're ever likely to know. |

Australia is a country, Island and Continent therefore greenland would become the largest island. |

Greenland.
Australia is an island, continent and country.
We seem to have an abundance of the "I'll answer even though I know nothing about Australia" group answering this.
Edit: Good one Ozmaniac. |

Greenland, as many have said. The largest tropical island is Borneo which is shared by Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. I thought the largest tropical island might be Madagascar but it's a bit smaller than Borneo. |

Australia is an island and a continent and a country. What? Did someone make a rule that it had to pick one or the other? This debate drives me nuts, it's always a talking point on here and it's asinine. AUSTRALIA IS AN ISLAND CONTINENT. NOT HARD. EASY TO UNDERSTAND. People saying it can't be an island because it's a continent and visa-versa, amaze me. It's like saying he can't be white because he's a man. Or it can't be brown because it's a cat!!! What the hell does one have to do with the other? Things can only be one thing at a time in your world, is that right? Anyway, after Australia (7,600,000km squared) the largest island in the world is Greenland at 2,130,800km squared. The largest TROPICAL island is New Guinea, (where do people get this other sh*t from?) 785,753m squared, as opposed to Borneo, which someone else said which is 748 168km squared. |

Greenland.
Australia is a country and an island, it's continent is Australasia which includes NZ, fiji & PNG.
Yes people say its a continental landmass and the conitinent is australia the same as the country, then what continent do the countries around it belong to??
When you think about it and ignore continents and that crap, everthing is an island. so the biggest 'island' would be the europe/asia/africa continent.

Since Australia is a continent and not an Island, the largest island would therefore be the current largest island - Greenland. |

As the others have mentioned Australia is a continent not an island, so it would remain the same Greenland, regardless.
Ozmaniac seems to have no idea lol!! |

This question doesn't make much sense, Australia is a country, not an island, it is the larger country in the continent of Oceania. Therefore the current largest island would remain the larger island regardless of weather australia sunk or not. |
