its very simple. fill out the forms correctly and you shouldnt have a problem.
as long as you have not had a conviction of over 12 months, you should be fine. If you have had a conviction of over 12 months at ANY stage of your life, customs will have to assess each situation and see if you are a threat to our community.
To avoid much hassle, on the Yellow declaration card, fill it out TRUTHFULLY and when you get to the question about any criminal convictions, check YES....(lasst time i filled it out, it ment for any conviction of any length....just see what it says wehn you come).
so when you get to passport control, they will ask you what type of conviction you were on...and one or 2 more questions may be asked
then they will question you....then your out in australia!!
remember. have plenty of cash and credit cards for however long your going to stay, fill out the immigration card correctly and co-operate with our customs officers...we have the hardest customs in the world, some say harder than the US. |

If you are just after a normal travel visa, not a problem. However, you will be asked if you have a criminal record. I suggest you always tell the truth in these cases, you will normally be asked to sign a declaration before landing and hand it in to customs. If you don't declare your past history and they find out, you may have your visa cancelled and be asked to leave the country. Immigration are connected to a worldwide network that keeps this type of info current, so your conviction may be known. In these cases it is also wise to declare any acquittals or cases in progress. Not doing so constitutes perjury (even if there is no intent and it is innocent), the consequences of which may be that any further visa applications by you will be refused.
If you are applying for any other sort of visa, it really depends. A substantial criminal record will mean you fail the character test, a minor infraction will usually be allowed to pass, but they do have quite a bit of discretion and it is determine don a case to case basis.
Good luck and bon voyage |

i'm sure that you can but you have to tell them about it. it's the ones who don't tell them that get in trouble. |

If you go for tourist purposes, and show your return ticket home and your hotel, they will not ask you about your jail history! |

if it's just a holiday shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you tick yes to the convictions question on the entry card cause if you dont and they find out customs are very strickt and will be hesitant to letting you in |
