Yes, it certainly does. It's an Aussie slang term.
It always makes me giggle when someone on an American TV show says that they root for their football team.

Yes and no. Most people I know would only take it that way if you use it in that specific sense - ie. 'Barry's rooting Jill'! If you were talking about plants and mentioned roots then everyone will think tree roots - if you are talking about rooting for your favourite team everyone (apart from those with their minds in the gutter!) will think you back that team... it just depends on how the word is being used. |
