New Zealand!!
I prefer our milder climate, summers in Australia are stiflling!! also i love the outdoors and New zealand has so much more natural beauty and lush native bush, also we don't have any snakes, toads, scorpions or the like so don't have to worry about getting bitten.
Life in NZ is more laidback than Australia
I'm lucky in that i can choose to live in either of the two countries, but having visited Australia and hearing from kiwis who have lived there for a year orso but then returned home to NZ, NZ will always be home for me. |

Its probably a lifestyle choice thing, as well as climate preference.
Both countries are very similar in many respects, with Australia being somewhat more cosmopolitan and multi-cultural, and New Zealand, while being reasonably cosmopolitan is more mono/bicultural with a strong Maori influence on the mainstream Western (originally English.Scots for the most part) culture. Australians are more laid back as a rule than Kiwis and while they can be generous, have a bit of a binge-drinking culture which can sometimes get out of hand. As a general rule, Kiwis are far less racist/sexist and more polite/reserved than Aussies.
The Australian economy is four times the size of the New Zealand one and the range of employment and salaries reflecting that.Australia id a continent, while New Zealand is two large islands, and the climate reflects that. Extremes of climate are not found in New Zealand with temps rarely exceeding 28 deg C, while in Australia, summer temps are often in the 30+ range. Personal safety is pretty good in both countries, with the exception perhaps of selected locations in the larger cities at certain times of day.
Having said this, either country would be very welcoming, and are both great places to live and bring up a family. |

I've lived most of my life in NZ even though I was born in Australia, and been back in Aussie for many years now.
Both country's have their positives and a hard choice. I still go back to NZ once a year if I can.... but I believe Australia has more opportunities and better lifestyle. |

I would choose New Zealand, luckily i live here already.
*I'm not a fan of temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius, unless I'm on holiday lying on a beach and swimming
*New Zealand has no snakes, scorpions, poisonous toads etc
*the natural beauty in NZ kicks Australias butt!! a lot of Australia is barren and dry
*New Zealand has some of the best walking tracks and ski fields in the world
* New Zealand has better white wine than Australia
I could go on but most of the above reasons sum it up for me
New Zealand rocks! :-) |

I would also have to say New Zealand
I thought about moving to Australia awhile back, but ultimately i realised i'd miss NZ too much, the thing that got me interested in moving to Aus in the first place was the prospect of higher wages but when i did some further research and spoke to kiwis who'd "been there done that" it turned out i'd be paying way higher rent to live in Aus, not only that but my lifestyle probably wouldn't be the same as it is here in NZ where i live close to the central city in Christchurch, drive a small car and have low petrol/transport costs because of this.
there was an article in the NZ press on the 8/10/2008 saying that there has been a mass exodus of Australians fleeing to NZ this year.
the move goes both ways. Undeniably more kiwis chosse to move to Australia but there is still a huge and growing number of Aussies doing the reverse.
see the article here http://www.stuff.co.nz/4719409a6479.html
The fact that many Australians are choosing to move to New Zealand for reasons other than job oppurtunities says A lot about the appeal of NZ
basically i just think new zealand is a beautiful country and i like that its smaller, everything is so close, beaches, mountains. I love our wildlife, our four distinctive seasons and just that NZ is a laid back place to be |
