If you emigrate to Australia, can you take your pet cats with you?

If so, do they have to go into quarantine? How long for?

Also, would English cats adapt to Australian conditions?

yes you can bring a cat but you must do all that is required by customs.
you need an import visa, the cat will have to undergo vet checks and blood tests and will be quarantined in Australia for 30 days at your expense

yes you can
quarantine is about 3 months

Penny J
yes you can but its a bit expensive. check with a Pet shipping agency for prices etc first then make you decision.

No, I am Aus. and when I moved overseas with my cat, which took me a few months to get all the necessary papers, they told me I could not bring the cat back into Australia. It is too difficult, takes too long, and costs too much. Then they have to stay in quarantine anyway. SO forget bringing any animals to Australia.

Cynical_Student
Last time I looked, they didn't as England litttle to no rabies cases.

I am pretty sure, that as long as you're cats have a up to date medical history, and had all its jabs it will be fine.

I would think the main concern would be the length of the flights.

crazeygrazey
I would very, very much doubt it. Australia is paranoid about introducing alien species, disease etc into their country.

I don't think you are allowed to take 'Vermin' into Australia...

Even cruising sailboats that want to anchor in Australian waters with animals on board have to post HUGE CASH BONDS for every animal on board. If you take your cats with you... you won't see them for A YEAR while they are in quarantine.

Just find a good home for them and move on.

holly
It would be cruel to take your cat from a very cold climate to a stinking hot climate I fear your cat may die.
