Hobart the quiet pace of life and the locals are friendly |

None of the above.
I love Cairns (Qld) - less populated but still a large enough city if that makes sense. - also gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
But if I had to pick one on your list it would be Adelaide, then second choice Hobart. |

Melbourne, definitely.
It has the crazy nightlife, sporting events, fashion.
Overall definitely the best city in Aus. |

I live in Canberra, and I honestly have to say it is almost like a big country town. I know you left it off your list, but it is a great place to raise a family :) No pollution, light traffic, 30 minutes to just about anywhere in the city, good schools. OK, it has its faults, like all cities do (i.e. lack of decent nightlife, shopping and so on), but if you have a family, it is pretty good. 2 minutes down the road and we are in the country, and I am a country girl at heart!! |

Since I don't give a hoot about nightlife and I dislike Sydney though it's got it's points, you can scratch thet one. Same goes for Melbourne.
Didn't think much of Geelong, it was flat and dull looking. Darwin would be too darn hot, worse than Rockhampton, never been to Perth and only spent a night in Adelaide so don't know about it. Looked OK but very dry.
Newcastle was OK when I was there but it's a long time ago, so was Hobart.
Lived in Brisbane a few years and would go back. So that one will do. |

To be honest I could quite happily live in any of them, except for Darwin due to the weather. Apart from the climate I find it doesn't matter that much which city you live in - you go to work, go home to your family, see your friends etc.
If I didn't have any ties to family, job etc I think I would pick Perth, but it really wouldn't make that much difference. |

Well i am not forced to live in Melbourne i choose to live here.
We do have great weather, excellent beaches,a great sporting precinct and all the nightlife any party animal would love. |

ok, im frm auz and spent most of my life in sydney and as a child melbourne, sydney is fast life big business money and theres alot of pretty hardcore gangs. melbourne i am thinking of moving back to or adelaide. perth ive never been to but c'mon theres drugs everywhere especially sydney. tasmania i only ever visited as a child but wouldnt want to live there as its to cold and rainy.
darwin is to hot for me, brisbane is a bit rednecky, geelong i've only ever passed thru, newcastle is lovely great beaches. and good people but would live either melbourne or adelaide. |

Jess F from what I have seen I have two choices, Sydney but not right in the City, and the Central Coast an hour south of Newcastle. |

Most definitely Perth - even with the drug problem (hahahahahahaha - there are drugs everywhere. Some of the smaller towns and cities in WA have far bigger drug problems than Perth. That is hilarious). Great place to raise the kids
My second choice would probably be Melbourne purely so I could actually watch West Coast play some football live! And cheaper... The cold could be a downer though....
I have never been to Darwin but I think i would also like to go there as it appears to be a very very different kind of city.
Have lived in Sydney - great while it was just me & the husband, but wouldn't want to try bringing up the kids therre - way to big for me. |

If you were into nightlife and big money then Sydney, Melbourne much the same though a tad more reserved, Perth is relaxed anything goes type place (drugs big there), Darwin too hot, Adelaide personally don't like but most seem to - lots of churches, Geelong is part of Melbourne, Newcastle is working class, Wollongong couldn't say, Hobart is safest and pretty with fresh clean air I would choose Hobart. |
