Im emigrating to Oz but love snowboarding so where from Perth would I have to go to find slopes?

If I move to Perth Western Australia where are the nearest ski resorts? Japan???
Additional Details
Change of sport would be sensible but i love the dust and the mountains and just about everything about snowboarding..
I think id be better of moving to continental europe but Oz is where that family are and i know ill enjoy the sun and the bbqs so i dont mind a bit of travel to get a bit of boarding in once or twice a year..

The nearest resorts are in the snowy mountains near Melbourne. They are world class and is a great area for just about anything else. Enjoy.

The only snow region in Australia in in to proximity of Canberra and south from there to the Victoria border.. about 3 months of the year. I live in Brisbane and it was cheaper for one of my friends to spend 2 weeks in the snow in New Zealand than to have 2 weeks in our own snowfields

No snow in Perth !

For Australia's ski fields with map see http://www.totaltravel.com.au/library/traveller/map-ski

You'd be best moving to Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra. All of those three cities are accessible to the Snowy Mountains - a fabulous Ski/snow resort.

I had friends who lived in Sydney and would go surfing before breakfast at Manly Beach and by early afternoon would be skiing in the Mountains! It was that close!

Canberra would be your best bet.

2.5 hours away to the snow. Day trips are so easy

Melbourne is your best bet - Mt Buller is awesome!!!
Sorry that doesn't really help u coz ur so far away ..........

If you are coming to Perth perhaps its would be more realistic to change your sport? If you took up surfing you would have a lot more choice in location.

Wheatgrass
from perth your about 4000 km from the snow in the east. you would be closer to antarctica.

your screwed pal, Perth is the most isolated city in the world!!!! Melbourne you can ski but its ****. your nearest decent mountain is Japan, a good 12 hour flight away!

All the best
