Hey, thnx for stopping by, i am an 18 year old student currently finnishing up my year 11 exams. Im not 100% wether or not i am going into year 12 next year. I will be living at home with my older brother next year along with my 2 pets. Mum and dad are moving because of their job and i am not able to get youth allowence because they earn to much.
Would i be able to get the doll next year?, if so how much do you get paid and what are the requirements to getting it. Please, if you can be so kind and give mi a hand, that would be awesome. Thankyou |

Get a job. Don't take advantage of our generous support system. Save it for those who really need it. It is un-Australian. It is people like you who cost tax payers lots each year. I'm sure if you worked, you wouldn't want to find out some of your money go to these type of people. You have two arms, two legs. I don't see why you're giving up on 12/13 years of schooling up in one go like that. The light at the end of the tunnel is near. Why give up when you have went so far? It will be a waste. All you're doing is throwing away your life.
Suffer at school now and you will find life much more comfortable in the end or you can have fun all you want now and suffer for the rest of your life with no hope. Which will you choose? A few more years of education and comfort for the rest of your life or fun for a few years then suffering for the next 60 years or so?
You are one fine person. I don't see why you are treating yourself like this. I'm in Year 12 and will do my HSC next year. I'm already feeling the workload piling up on me but I'm not giving up and neither should you.
May luck be with the choices you make in life. |

Why don't you stop thinking about ways to sponge off society and instead think about how to contribute towards it maybe by getting a job?!
It's Dole...not doll...
Better still stay in education! You'll only regret it 10 years down the line if you don't!

Well if you are thinking of not doing yr 12, why do you need to go on the dole? just get a job. Even if you do get it, they make you keep a diary of how many jobs you have applied for and you have to meet their target before you get the money. My brother had to do 5 hours a day of job hunting before they gave him any money. |

Why not just get a job/ instead of dole. |

Only Centrelink can say if you are entitled to the dole or not.
Even if you do get accepted for the dole, you won't be on it for long as you have to apply for about 4 jobs a week (and show proof) to continue with payments.
See http://www.centrelink.gov.au or go into your nearest centrelink office. |

You're not eligible for Newstart Allowance (what they call the dole these days) until you turn 21. You may be eligible for Youth Allowance once your parents have left, but I doubt it. Even if you do get YA, it isn't much and you MUST be either a full time student or looking for work.
I, and the other hard working taxpayers of Australia sincerely hope that you don't get anything.
Get a job and contribute to this country instead of exploiting it! |

You mean the dole. And probably not, seeing as you'll be living with your parents. Move out and get a job, or finish school and get qualifications. |

By the way you spell the extra year of schooling wouldn't do you any harm.
The 'dole' is for people over 21 or those emancipated. At 18 you are only entitled to Youth Allowance and if your parents earn too much then they are expected to support you.
I would tell you to go get a job, but from what I see here, I wouldn't hire you. |

you should stay at school and learn to spell. If you really are an Australian I would love to know where you were educated, they need a kick in the bum.
If you really need info on unemployment benefits - go to the centrelink website |

You will need to provide proof that your parents are not there to support you and they will also ask why you cant live with your parents,,,they will ring your parents to confirm why you cant live with them,,,if they satisfied with the answers you will be eligible for Youth Allowance. |

After year 12 I went on New Start Allowance for a year, I was living with my parents at the time. It was not difficult to obtain however as stated you do have to provide proof you are looking for work, for me it was some years back and these days it is a lot stricter - I only had to provide two employer details per fortnight, now you have to keep a diary etc.
I lived in a remote area and jobs were few and far between, I took what odd jobs I could and was still able to receive the dole as I wasn't paid much.
After that year I went on to further study and was able to remain on NSA without looking for work. If anyone (such as the above contributors) were to begrudge me for that "year off" I'd tell them to stick it. In your case it would be a good idea to start by applying for new start allowance as it could very well lead to employment opportunities for you, and in the meantime provide you with much needed finances. |

It would appear that most are of the opinion that you should get a job. That sounds exciting...... yeah right!!!! I'd prefer chilling out. Even if the dole is/isn't available, your folks should give you loads of money as you said they earn too much.
Have fun in the sun. You're only young once. You should enjoy your year out and have a holiday. Is there no-one to give you some cash for that too?
Living at home with your older brother next year along with 2 pets doesn't sound so great either....... can you drive?.... get a camper van and tour with some mates. |
