Immigrating to Brisbane or Perth? |
Hi,
I’m a 23years old from Ireland looking to move to either Perth or Brisbane. I’ve been living in Singapore for the past year.
I’m looking to move to get work/work experience along the lines of business/restaurant/hotel management.
My main question is where is better for a young guy to set himself up and find work?
I don’t plan to drive as I’m not sure if I will stay longer than 1 year depending on work and so I’d rather try to get by on public transport during this time.
Other factors are I love warm weather and have heard mixed reports that Perth is warmer but also read Brisbane is warmer in winter.
I’ve also heard Perth is more mixed with a higher proportion of Asians which having lived in Singapore I think is nice. However I’m worried Perth is too isolated and possibly too quiet. Friends have advised Brisbane is better and within easier travelling distance to other cities if I want to see more of Australia. I’ve also read the cost of living is generally higher in Perth and that people tend to be older and more family orientated.
Any advice on where would suit me best?
Thanks

Perth!!
I love it!
beach at your doorstep,
very friendly vocals.
sunniest capital city in the world,
I have lived here my whole life and never felt isolated or bored, everything you need plus more. we are only isolated is you compare as to the other capital cities in Australia. Perth is closer to Jakarta than it is to Sydney, but that's why so many people love it and you would never notice how far awauntilere untill you looked at a map. so much to see and do, with a 12,000 km coast line. I'm glad our little clean city is not well know or famous but it is now the fastest growing city in Australia - now that's got to mean something.
There is nothing i don't like about Perth is a absolatly amazing city and i wouldn't want to live anywhere else. There was a survay and perth residents were voted the friendliest in the country. It was also rated the 4th most livable city in the world! Living in Perth is great, its one of Australia's best kept secrets even from Australia itself. Great education system and great opportunities. The vibe is great in the city and the suburbs are very kid friendly, with lots of things to do. I wouldn't say it was torientatedy orientated, just a nice mixure of both with great places to go out! And some thing like 1/3 of Perth's population weren't even born in W.A!
Worst: House prices are expensive. Shopping hours are stupid and most shops are not open sundays - although this is very easy to get use too, and can be a good thing because it gives you a day to do other things and you always know it's coming.
All up i love this Country, State and more so this city! |

I live in Perth and have to say its much better than Brissy if you want reassurance Perth is number 4 on the worlds most liveable cities whilst Brisbane barely made it! Plus the transports reliable, the beaches are beautiful, we're laidback and fun and the isolation doesn't bother you much. However I will say Perth is more expensive real estate wise but some of the jobs are paid more to compensate. |

Let me start off by saying THANK GOD YOU DIDN"T SAY SYDNEY!!! There is just so much more to Australia than Sydney. While there isn't too much difference between Brisbane and Perth, I prefer Brissy myself. Perth is just too isolated for my liking, and you get five seasons of weather in one day in Perth's winter time. Brisbane on the other hand has a more predictable weather system, is more connected to the world and is in such a good location, being only an hour's drive from the Gold Coast, or about a 1hr 10min train ride on the Gold Coast line to a bus connection to Surfers and all the theme parks. Be warned though, Brisbane's bus system is completely choked in the peak hours if you get on after the park and ride stops. |

Brisbane all the way
I live just North of Brisbane and I would have to say its way better, for starters there are way more jobs going, Public Transport is better in Brisbane than Perth although it's not the best, If you want Goood Public Transport it's Sydney or Melbourne. Perth is way to far away plus there are two cities with over 300,000 people south and North of Brisbane (Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast) . Brisbane has a larger poulation and is bigger and more spread out. Great shopping and cheaper air fares than perth. Also Bribane is warmer, in summer, and winter, and spring, and Autumn, yes thats all year round. Your Carrer choice would also be very promising in the brisbane area because Brisbane is the most visited place Domestically in all of Australia and it has the fastest growing population. You should also try The Gold Coast which is very touristy with 5 major theme Parks, so obviously allot of tourists there and also the Sunshine Coast which is very beachy and laid back, were homes go for Millions of dollars and tourists flock to the area to be near the "rich and Famous". I hope I've helped and I hope that you come to Australia. |
