In Australia is the north or south a colder climate?

We are moving from the U.S. to Australia, and I am wondering what things in Australia are opposite from things in the U.S.(like the summer & winter thing)? Thanks.

Hello there,
The southern parts of Australia are much colder than the northern parts.
Now, for example, in May (October or November) in the northern parts the temperature is around 27-40 (80-104) degrees, while in the southern parts it is 18-24 (64-75) degrees.
However, when it's summer (your winter) the gap is getting a bit closer.

The south is closer to the south pole so it would be colder than the north depending on the season. It would be opposite from North America when the north is colder in the winter.

North Queensland is HOT - Tropical climate and rain forests.

Where I am, (Cairns) here we have "dry season" and "wet season" We have just started the dry season. No winter up here.

Basically Oct - Feb is the hottest months all around Australia.
Melbourne can get four seasons in one day.

For more info on weather for Australia - go to the Bureau of Meteorology

By the way - with your white christmas happening in the US - our Santa wears shorts and a singlet!

southern australian states is cooler in all 4 seasons.

NSW, VICTORIA, SOUTH AUSTRALIA and even out west of QLD it tends to get cold especially at night - on the coastline it does tend to get cold with the south easterly winds - but the capital of australia Canberra would be coldest all year round
