It is very tough at the moment because of the current economic circumstances ....maybe the best option would be to do some research within the IT industry first...use industry associations as well as recruiting firms ...see what is out there !
You never know ...your particular skill sets might fill a niche .If you can line something up then you stand a better chance with immigration.
Try the government's website for guidance..www.immi.gov.au
Best of luck.... |

They have been swamped with applicants and have tightened their criteria. Many occupation quotas are now "full" and applications (no matter how qualified) are refused.
Before you do any planning to emigrate check out if you would qualify. They are now very fussy!
Pity we weren't/aren't! |

I missed out by being over 40 when I decided I wanted to go, which made it impossible for me to make the minimum number of points to get in automatically.
My suggestion (worked for a couple of mates of mine) - go over for a holiday and read ever paper and go to every agency possible and try to get some interviews. Try to get an idea of the money you might expect to make and the cost of living. If it looks promising you then come home and put in an application for a visa (you can't "officially" look for work on a tourist visa). Any companies that are interested will help you, but remember if they aren't looking for an Aussie they're looking for cheap labour!
Everyone seems to want to go to Sydney so think about trying somewhere outside of NSW which will give you an edge.
If it doesn't work out just enjoy a stay in the greatest country on Earth :-) |

Since the beginning of January, the only non-sponsored visa applications being processed are for people with occupations on the Critical Skills List (CSL) and this situation is likely to continue for some considerable time - at least until the economy gets back to normal and probably beyond that time. I can't see your occupation on the CSL unless perhaps you're a degree qualified Electronics Engineer but maybe I'm looking for the wrong job. See source for a fact sheet on visa processing priorities and a link to the CSL.
The Computer Professional occupations on the CSL are detailed on the MODL and yours isn't listed as far as I can see. See source for a link to the MODL.
If your occupation isn't on the CSL, that means that your only alternative is to see if your occupation is eligible for an employer or state government sponsored visa. For employer sponsorship, it must be on the SOL:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf
For state government sponsorship, you will need to go to the sponsored migration pages on each of the 8 state and territory government websites. See source for a link to the government websites.
The following is the Australian Skills Recognition Information (ASRI) list which provides job descriptions and qualifications required for each occupation on the CSL, MODL and SOL. A prerequisite for your visa application is that you must obtain positive skills recognition from the assessment body specified for your occupation - they are listed on the ASRI.
