Is 49 too old to migrate to Australia?

Hi all,
Both husband and i are trained nurses. Husband is in RAF but retires when he's 49. Once he's out the RAf at 49 we want to migrate to Australia and work as nurses there.
Will we be considered too old? We will have our own property here that we would sell so would have a good sum of money to take with us to buy property.

I don't think 49 is too old at all.
I believe nurses are in short supply and especially in Oz.
Let your hubby finish his RAF career and he will get a good gratuity and a good pension too, but 49 is not too old either.

ucrazy
if i was able to retire at that age and know i was going to have money i would go. check out the web sites for australia and see if there is a very big desire for nurses there if so there will be no issues for your age ,,by the way i am a cna take me with you

I don't think you will be too old. I am sure they will welcome experienced nurses. Plus you have your own assets to buy property.
A friend of mine is 54 and just immigrated to Thailand to start a new life!
Have fun!

Australia is short on nurses so no.

49 is not regarded as old to emigrate. However, do speak to the Australian High Commission http://www.australia.org.uk/ to see whether they think 49 is too old.

The Foreign Office website http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1007029396086 provided the contact details.

The only way to find out is to contact Australia House, they will not only tell you wether you are to old but will tell you as to whether nurses are required over there. It isn't as easy as just saying that you fancy going there as it is in many countrys. Oh and it's birds that migrate not people.lol

Check the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website at
http://www.immi.gov.au
You should find most of the information you need there.

No that's not too old at all, my friend's mother went to Oz when she was 71 and started a charity. Just make sure you do your research of what you need to do, pensions, health care and everything and best of luck!

I emigrated to brisbane 13 years ago from London Uk - I cannot tell you in words how much better the quality of life is here. Its just so good and we need medical people very much. A nice 3 bedroom house on its own piece of land in Brisbane will cost you very roughly 250,000 - 300,000 Australian which in pounds is about 160,000 - Same as you would pay to rent the same house for a month in the UK these days from what I hear.

you're never to old to escape this country!

On a serious note though my Aunt and Uncle, both late 50's are emigrating to Thailand next month, they had a house built there. They thought of going to Australia but neither are "skilled" workers and with their age it was too difficult.

Go now - you can always come back if it doesn't work out.

I'm 27 and getting married this year. After that we will be looking to emigrate... can't wait!
