Is $75,000 per year a good salary for Perth?

I've been offered a job at $75,000 plus 9% superannuation per year to relocate to Perth from the US. Is this enough for a small family of three (and maybe four in a short while)?

To be totally honest, I would not consider relocating for $75,000 and the 9% superannuation is not a bonus - it's a statutory (legal) requirement. Unless there are other advantages to moving your family from the US, I would not accept the offer. $75,000 is not a huge income in Australia when you have 3 dependents and rent to pay.

Tha amounts to about $1,000 a week after tax. Take out rent of $400 per week leaving $600 a week. You'd be living on the edge.

Its a reasonably good salary, well ahead of many others in Perth, but you would not be what I'd term 'well-off'. Your disposable income will depend on whether you have the capital behind you to buy a house or have to rent/mortgage.

There isn't much property for a family your size in a good suburb for less than around $450,000 or a rental of $400+ a week.

Used vehicles are a lot more expensive to purchase than the US, while new they are still a little more expensive.

i think you would struggle on that wage alone for a family. although i'm sure many people survive on this. you definately couldn't have private schooling.

but it might be a good wage for your particular job. does it include houseing or anything else?

it would be ok if you where a bachelor.

Sound good but obtain what tax rate you have to pay being a non-resident. before giving a answer to the offer. The normal rate for me is 30% for you it could be up to 50%.

cristinbeach
No! If you are a US citizen, you still have to pay US federal taxes (not state) and Australian taxes are higher than ours anyway.

Perth is on a hiring BOOM right now - everything is more expensive and they are desperate for people. Hold out for more.

Beware - houses are smaller and property lots are smaller as well.... but extremely expensive. Its a fantastic place for a family, but you won't make it on 75K.

ellegee3012
YES you could live very comfortably on that......no worries !!

Depends on what you do, remember that you will loose 25-30% of that 75k in taxes

Yes, thats a good salary. I would consider going for the job.

Yes, that's a fair salary, it's definitely above average. But as said before you will loose a fair bit of that in tax

We have a great lifestyle on a lot less than that!!

Jay S
