I think it is a great place to live. If I was going to relocate to another country, I think I would choose Australia. |

I suppose it really depends on where you compare Australia to as there are many countries which are good to live in.
From my own perspective I have lived in a number of english speaking countries and without doubt I consider Australia to be by far the best of them.
Australia has a wonderful range of climates, ranging from tropical wet to temperate, which people can choose to live in. There are no restrictions whatsoever as to where you can live, it is simply up to you.
The states and cities of Australia are significanly different from each other as to have there own unique feel so that you just know where you are without the need to ask.
Coming from a european background I consider Australia to safer than any previous country I have lived in, but like most other western countries there are safety concerns, but in general I consider Austrlia to be as safe as anywhere else. For a visitor it really only requires a little forward planning to be safe.
Concern about the danger of Australian wildlife are overblown as people are rarely affected by it. Usually those who are injured are those who a a little foolish in how the deal with safety precautions.
Salary rates have to be considered in terms of the cost base of the country that it is paid in and in this respect Australians are paid as well as other countries. Australia, excluding housing costs in specifis areas, is a cheap country to live in. Cetainitly it is a lot cheaper than europe. The current Australian exchange rates are very generous.
Australia offers a great lifestyle with its beatiful climate. Many people swim all year round and it is not unusual, even in the middle of winter to see people swimming at the beaches.
Australian's spend a great deal of there time on outside activities i.e barbecues, walks, football, cricket etc. |

I have been in Australia for about 6 months now, I expected it to be really great, high class living and all the rest of it. When I got here, it wasn't as great as they had made it out to be on TV. The people I ran into were just arrogant and ignorant, The food was horrible and still is, now that I've settled in I have found good australia friends and have slowly gotten used to the aussie fan dangle accent, and their freakin food. |

definately safer i think, the pay depends on where u go & who could resist the laid back lifestyle of an aussie.
I love it & my hubby immigrated from uk coz he fell in love with it, & me 2 of course, yes i am one of the very patriotic australians. |

I have lived in Australia most of my life but have also lived in the U.S. I think I can answer this question quite well.
Most Australian cities are reasonably safe with the exception of places like Sydney.... Sydney is safe in the tourist areas but not so safe in areas such as the southwest and western suburbs (it has high crime and gang problems with areas often compared to south central los angeles).
Lifestyle in Australia is okay however there is no real culture and things are not as big, fun, entertaining and exciting as in America. People in Sydney are quite racist and tension in numerous parts of the city make it difficult to visit certain areas without experiencing trouble. There is also no convenience everything shuts early and its hard to shop after 5pm and eat after 9 or 10pm (even on weekends). The quality of food is also bad and has no taste when compared to the U.S.
Low paying jobs in the U.S. such as retail, waiter work etc actually pay well in Australia and they almost earn as much as an Australian corporate worker however skilled professionals earn way more in the U.S. than they do in Australia.
The cost of living in Australia is quite high compared to the U.S. Interest rates (although low for Australian standards at the moment) are higher that the U.S. making it hard to repay any property that you purchase. Its very difficult to buy a nice and clean home in a safe neighbourhood in Sydney under $500,000. However its not so hard to do so in other Australian cities.
My advice..... if you live in the U.S. stay there you dont realise how blessed you are to live there...... I am trying to permanantly relocate there at the moment. If you dont live in the U.S. then try relocate there. Although if you do really want to live in Australia avoid Sydney by all costs (it is so misleading the way that its represented internationally). The best option would be a city like Melbourne or Brisbane. |
