Is New Zealand too quiet to visit in Winter?

We have to go in UK School Summer Hols and are worried that a lot of touristy bits may be closed through the NZ Winter months.

You can't prove god is real
WInter in NZ is ski season. It'll be cold but everything will be open. Rotorua, Bay of Islands and the West Coast Beaches (Piha, Bethells etc) in the North Island and Wanaka (near Queenstown but so much nicer) in the South Island would be my favourites.

Jonny G
Absolutley not! Winter in New Zealand, most things are open! As many people from Australia come over to ski.

In our part of the world, most tourist areas remain open all year round.

No, of course not. There is heaps to do. It will probobly be hot for you, coming from the UK.

I hope you have a great time here!

Cheers

No - winter is the best time to visit NZ and learn to ski or snowboard. I am sure that you will enjoy NZ - make sure that you buy some possum fur nipple warmers!!!

NZ has a thriving winter sports industry so there will still be plenty to do, but I doubt the good stuff like whale watching in Kaikoura will be operating.

New Zealand is a year round destination. I've been there a number of times during the northern hemisphere summer.

Loads of stuff is open, including the whale watching, which I have booked for June.
