suncatcher and MishMash have the right idea!! Yes Perth is small & yes we are the most isolated capital city on the planet but if you are not afraid to go out and make friends and talk to people, you will love it here!! And you don't need to go over east for a weekend when you have so many great places near to Perth to visit! there is the Margaret River region for starters. North of Perth there are some great little hideaways for some R & R. And it is cheaper to fly to Bali than the Eastern states a lot of the time!

Some of the nightlife areas are a little dodgy - I would avoid Northbridge like the plague and stick to areas like Fremantle and subiaco, Mt Lawly.

One thing you will find is that we tend to do a lot of socialising at people houses rather than go out all the time. Our great weather really lends it's self to the outdoors life and if you have any interest in sport (either watching or participating), you will have no trouble finding friends!!

All it will take is an open mind and you will be fine!

Perth is a great city. It has fantastic weather, good beaches and friendly people. It is a reasonably small city, and hence the nightlife is more limited than Sydney or Melbourne but there are still loads to do. Don't let the comments from the others put you off Perth. I now live in Melbourne however I went to uni at UWA and had such a great time.

There are lots to do in Perth, it is only boring if you cannot be bothered getting out and doing something

I don't know who you've been talking to but Perth rocks. It's not as big as Sydney or Melbourne but that doesn't mean it's a ghost town. You can get to Sydney for about $200, but once you get to Perth you will see that they have nothing over east that we don't have here. And this is Australia so the people are open and friendly (if you give us a chance).

There's nothing wrong with Perth. Don't worry, you will have heaps to do. The city centre is not boring, there's heaps happening around the shopping malls and Northbridge. Kings Park is lovely and Perth is known for great weather. Just outside are Fremantle and Rottnest Island, and the beaches of Perth are great. You will not be bored, and people are very nice and friendly.

yeah, perth is alright i guess (i live in perth) the city is one of the places i love going to coz heapsa people dress weirdly and you get all the eccentric people there. there are fun festivals and concerts all the time. the best thing about perth is that i love the weather :)

Perth is boring unless you're Asian, then you'll feel like at home.

hmmm. perth is pretty crappy

the music scene is okay though
like concerts and stuff

but i remember even bands coming out of there saying it was
"the most iscolated city on eart" (ant from metro station)

and im not sure about the flight fares
but im from brisbane

and i know its cheaper for me to fly to Fiji rather than perth

i know i'd rather go there lol
