Is Steve Irwin viewed by Australians as a true conservanists or just another celebrity figure? |
Did he really do a lot or was he just out to become a star. Since i am an American not an Aussie i just wonder and his daughter Bindi what do you think of her now? |

I think that at the beginning while he was with his father he did care about conservation. However, before his death a lot of the things that he did including his Zoo were commercialised for example he imported a lot of animals that are not Australian and produced things that were mainly for commercial purposes( for examples dolls, toys etc).
Bindi is starting to be over the top a little bit.She is a nice girl but tries to be famous and rich at a very young age.Steve's father has left the Zoo because he is concerned about the way Terri takes care of the family and the Zoo.
I believe that Steve's father is the conservationist. He really cares about nature. |

Steve Irwin was a hero as far as anyone who cares about Australian wildlife & conservation was concerned. You will probably hear lots of negative comments about him, his tv manner made many people cringe - even many of his supporters groaned occasionally at some of his antics and comments.
But one has to look at the bigger picture. He took wildlife & conservation to the masses in a big way. His private purchases of masses of land throughout the country for permanent habitat is only now becoming common knowledge. He did so much work 'behind the scenes'.
As a wildlife carer, my wife & I met him on a few occasions at his wildlife hospital at Australia Zoo (free vet care for wildlife, even complicated surgery). I can assure you that his enthusiasm and manner were pretty much the same in real life as on-camera.
A genuine bloke who is sadly missed. |

Steve irwin - while hewas just a little over the top sometimes, what he did for the wildlife of this country was amazing! He will be forever remembered for the role he has played in conservation here. i didn't agree with the way he went about things sometimes but he got the job done!!
As for Bindi, I do feel for her. She has spent her whole life in the spotlight and it is al she knows. I am still not 100% convinced that the way she is being raise is really healthy but so far, she is just a regular little girl who is a bit annoying (like most little kids!) I hope that she will grow up "normal", if there is such a word!! |

I support Steve Irwin's cause, I think people should think more about animal conservation.
BUT .......
I think since Steve's death, Terri Irwin has gone from telling the public about animal conservation, to shoving her kids into the spotlight at any expense.
I feel sorry for Bindi Irwin, her mother is using her to keep Steve's name in people's minds, and Bindi is missing out on a childhood. I think all to serve her mother's warped needs. |

Well we seriously need more people like Steve in the world, he most defenitly did every thing he said he was going to do. He bought masses of acres of land just to conserve the wildlife, from development. Whenever there was a animal in need he was there, if only he was still around he would be up there trying to save the whales, from being slaughtered by japan. But since his passing I don't really hear much about terry or bindi. |

His wife Terri was the one who pushed the "star" thing. I remember Australia Zoo when it was a little concrete building with a few snakes in it. Steve's parents owned it and were always passionate about animals. Yes, Steve Irwin did put his money where his mouth is by funding research on animals (especially crocs), buying tracts of land to save them for the future, etc, etc. I think without Terry as the driving force the chances are he would still just have that little concrete building and be quite happy. Terri is still fighting in his name to save tracts of land sidelined for mining and for other causes in the name of australia and the animals.
He really did do a lot of good with his resources..... although Australian's are divided on his methods. It's a kind of you either love him or hate him thing. I love him. Bindi's childhood was never going to be normal.. I guess time will tell how it affects her. She's is an incredible little girl! |

I feel very sorry for Bindi, she has not been permitted to have a proper childhood. As to Steve he did a lot to raise awareness of the animals of our country and has helped with awareness about some of our more dangerous animals such as snakes and crocodiles. However the way he went about it on screen was tailored to an overseas audience and most Australians found it too extravagant for their tastes. when speaking to Australians you will find that a lot of them just can't stand him. |

Some people love him others loathe him.
Personally, I do believe he did a lot of good work with the "Wildlife Warriors", Wildlife Veterinary Hospital and wildlife conservation in general.
Steve Irwin was successful in getting people interested in the welfare of our less than cute and cuddly native animals, such as crocs and snakes.
I think Bindi is being exploited by her stupid mother. |

Steve Irwin is a touchy subject here. I loved his doccos, and what he did for Australian tourism was fantastic. Although, he did give off the perception that under every rock and around every corner in Australia there was something trying to kill you. Bindi is a lovely girl, with the up-bringing most kids would love to have. She was deeply loved by her father and that was evident. She is maturing now and is not so dramatic when she speaks. She has the adoration of millions around the world and is doing more than her part for conservation. I think she is a great Australian asset. Lets hope she continues her fathers work. |

Steve Irwin made his name by persecuting animals. Many of us have no respect for him. And Australia Zoo is an outrageous ripofff.
I feel sorry for Bindi. I hope she has the courage to tell her minders to shove it soon so she has a chance to choose her own life. |
