really depends what stage of life your are in..

Inner-city suburbs are the go (around Leichhardt, Annandale, Stanmore, Rozelle, Balmain, Haberfield).
Public transport (buses, trains and in some places ferries) at walking distance and city centre only single-figure kilometres away.
The downside to that is the prices of real estate, quite astronomical. |

This depends why you want to live in Sydney and more importantly WHERE (beach? inner city? suburbia?). I have lived in Sydney for over 20 years and love it. I have also lived in Melbourne and London.
If you want to live in a nice area of Sydney be prepared to pay $$$ for a good property.
The nicest areas in my opinion are:
Lower North Shore - namely Kirribilli, Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Waverton which are all close to the harbour and easy access to the city.
Northern Beaches - namely Fairlight, Little Manly, Mona Vale, Newport - if you like the beach these suburbs are great, very laid back, family friendly, lots of cafes. It can be a painful drive into the city from Mona Vale and Newport (about 1 hour) but from Fairlight and Little Manly it is just a quick ferry ride.
Eastern Suburbs - namely North Bondi, Bronte and Rose Bay. Beaches and cafes. Safe neighbourhoods. Close to city.
Near Sydney City - namely Paddington, Newtown, King St Wharf, Erskineville. All great location for the city lifestyle. Newtown and Erskineville are eclectic nieghbourhoods with lots of soul. Paddington is expensive and trendy. King St Wharf is right in the city, on the harbour, near LOADS of bars, restaurants, nightclubs etc.
Hope this helps. Expect to pay upwards of $400p/w for a one bedroom place in these areas.
Good luck! |

Yes, unless you're stuck in a far outer (particularly western / southwestern) suburb. The nicest areas are the north, east and inner western suburbs. |

If you a beach person..will be fantastic place on earth. But if you just work and don't enjoy the sun..It quite boring. The restaurants are closed very early at 10pm. not like some other countries ... I like Melbourne more actually. Yes, also quite expensive. Nicest Areas to live in Sydney? I think Neutral Bay. |

Living in Sydney is just like living in Vancouver only its always sunny and bright. I really like it there. I think living near Darling Harbour would be awesome! |
