Is Sydney Australia as amazing as the pictures make it look ? |
I mean I live in Philadelphia, but when I google Philadelphia these AMAZINGGG pics come up.. but in reality over 2 murders a day happen in the city itself... and Its like all the pics of Philly look all beautiful and stuff.
So is Sydney Australia the same way and overrated ? |

Not at all. Sydney AND Australia is a beautiful place, beautiful scenery all around and friendly people. Because we have so much space yet so few people we still have the nature of the place, its not all residential estates. We don't have violence in Australia like you mention in Philly. Guns are banned and for good reason. |

Not overrated at all! The harbor is fantastic, there are lovely beaches, great cafes, and exceptionally nice people, for the most part. :) I've lived here for a few years now and I never get tired of it. It's also one of the cleanest cities you'll find, in my opinion. |

No, it is no where near over-rated. Ive had many people come here and realise how amazing and warm it is....so they keep coming back! There arent gang murders often or anything...as another person said..more like 2 a year. It is a very safe place....and the people are exceptionally nice. I dont live in Sydney, a bit further south but have visted it many times before! However, dont be disappointed if it looks much like America. There is lots to see and do such as tours, zoos, beaches...VISIT BONDI! if u get the chance and great shopping.
have fun if you do decide to come here one day |

It's not that overrated.
The harbour is very pretty, there is lots of grass around some parts of it where you can sit an have a picnic,
you can climb the harbour bridge or go on a cruise and go under it,
there's lots of nice shops (really nice ice cream)
and it is generally very beautiful. |

Well it's fairly obvious that tourism pictures are going to paint a rosy picture. Every city has its seamy side which no-one is prepared to advertise. But I think on the whole that the beautiful, majestic, exciting, vibrant and fun aspects of Sydney certainly outweigh the less interesting parts. |

Nah it's not overrated at all. I take advantage of it all the time. Beautiful weather, decent people ect. but I'm from the North Shores of Sydney- a middle to upper class area, the Western suburbs always gets on the news for the crime stuff. The city isn't dangerous- people can be a bit pushy and might bowl you over if you're not moving but Darling Harbour (where the Sydney Opera House is) is a great place to chill and take in the beautiful scenery. |

All the negativity comes from people in Melbourne out of pure jelousy. Yes the Harbour is majestic, the City rocks, we even have an historic drinking precenct called 'The Rocks' it makes trips to our other cities BORING!! But can aslso be expensive to live in & theres not much nice about the outer suburbs! Rents are about $480-$550 pw for a 2 bedroom flat, $350pw for a 1 bedroom over a 6-12 month lease. $600,000 will still only buy 2 bedroom plus study apartment in close proximity say 10 mins if it is 30-40 years old! |

Sure is if you're around the CBD and the harbour. However, once you leave the city and go out into the suburban areas, it is pretty average like any other place. |

Well I suppose when you put it like that, yes it is, dont get me wrong Sydney is as beautiful as you see it online but it has got its seedy suburbs and streets, it has gang violence as well, we dont have 2 murders a day though, more like a year, its a great City but like every other city in Australia we are heading the American way, so I would think that in about ten years time Sydney might be worse. |

YES!! Finally, a foreigner who dosn't have the wool over his eyes.
Sydney is an urban hole. Its pretty bleak actually. |

Sydney city is pretty and is like the pictures but when you go out to suburbia its just sub divisions and Mc Mansions. Its pretty safe generally except in the South West where all the arabs are killing each other over drugs but its more like a murder every week or so |

Vertigo

Yep - pretty much. Nice harbour, but that's about it. |

sydney is nothing like philadelphia
yes there seems to be murders everyday but that happens in every city
sydney is very over rated, take away the harbour and you have 7million people crammed into the most expencive city in australia |
