Is Sydney really called the city of dreams? what do people call Sydney?

Hi,

I have lived in Sydney all my life, while it does have it's bad areas (as all places do) it really is a beautiful city.

Everyone here that I know just calls it Sydney. I personally have never heard of anyone calling it the city of dreams.

Maybe "The City Of Debts" would be more appropriate as Sydney is one of the most expensive cities especially in terms of housing and petrol costs!

All in all, it is one of the best cities in Australia without a doubt!

I've heard it called the Harbour City, but the City of Dreams is a new one on me. Sounds like something an advertising agency might dream up.

well Sydney is pretty nice, i like it better than melbourne, it's so clean and nice. not sure about the whole "city of dreams" i've only been there once! (i live in tasmania)
I know that people call it the emerald city because of it's emerald green waters in the harbour.

I live here. I call it Sydney. Lots of outsiders call it lots of weird things, but the locals will look at you as though you have two heads if you call it anything but Sydney.

I live here and we just call it Sydney or the City.That is a new one to me.I guess anywhere could be called the City of Dreams if you are happy where you live.

I live in Sydney, have done for 28 years and have never once called it the city of dreams.

Sydney is a pretty rad place though - you can pretty much eat at any hour in the city and there will be dozens of different places to choose from, we have a very multicultural society so you are always meeting people from different countries, and it's a beautiful place to visit - especially our harbour & countryside!

You would get any dream here. The Big Apple is the melting pot, the city that never sleeps.

Isn't that New York? LA is the city where dreams come true i think. Most things that have dream in it has something to do with America, the land of opportunity.
