It's a staple for little kids growing up in Australia. I ate it as a kid, but not now (as an adult). Some Australians suffer serious withdrawals when overseas if they ca'nt get their hands on a jar of vegemite.
Our "National Anthem" has a Vegemite version!!
....Australians all love Vegemite
For we are young and free
We all enjoy our Vegemite
In front of the TV....etc

Havent you heard the song?

"Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six-foot-four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said...

I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Cant you hear, cant your hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover"

Dan

Oh my yes indeedy it is popular here - 'it puts a rose in every cheek!'

But if you like Vegemite and are allergic (like me), we also sell Marmite and Promite. Similar in taste, although I tend to think Promite has an after taste of celery :p

It is a must have in any Aussies pantry.

Mel
Vegemite is rather divided, you either love it or you hate it.

I like it on toast for breakkie but you only need a tiny smear of it, too much and it tastes disqusting.

MH
yes, it is! hehehe.
