The exchange rate changes daily infact it can change within minutes but on friday the rate was just over 93 cents american equaling 1 australian dollar . Anyone from Australia going on holiday to America now can get a very good cheaper holiday than it has been for many years. It was only a year or so ago that the Australian dollar only equalled about 55 american cents. |

It's close. About US 96c, will give you AUS $1. |

I just checked, and the US$1,000,000 gift that you want to buy me is worth AU$1,064,950! |

At one stage about 5-10 years ago the exchane rate was about $2 Australian=$1 American. Now its nearly equal about 95 US cents to $1 Australian. |

It depends on the gift, but in general, consumer goods are less expensive in America than in Australia. Your dollar is also a little higher in value than the AUD. This all means that If you spend, say, $50 on a gift for her, it would probably cost $60 or $70 in Australia. |

A lot of people in Australia buy things mail order from the USA, as many products are cheaper in the USA than they are in Australia.
On that basis, your gift should be good value to the recipient.
It obviously depends on the item, but I recently bought contact lenses for AUD 90 from the USA, they would have been AUD180 locally. I also got computer memory for A$72 that would have been about $200 locally.
However, I am sure that somethings would be more expensive in the USA, I just don't know what ;) |
