Is australia a cultureless void?

I am CC of Oz, prepare to have your Culture assimilated. Resistance is futile.

It depends on what you mean by culture. Australia rates pretty highly in Opera, Feature Films, Short Films (Tropfest), Popular Culture (INXS, Air Supply, Savage Garden, Rogue Traders, Powder Finger, AC/DC), Swimwear, Sports and many other forms of culture. Perhaps the void you are talking about is the culture of some other country. Chances are that exists in Australia too, as we assimilated peoples and cultures from all over the world, and add our own twist to them.

Australia even helps define what other people consider culture. Everyone will have heard of didgeridoo's and Boomerangs which are staples of Aboriginal culture.
The internet and SMS have absorbed a lot Australian culture in the form of the way we shorten every word down to its most basic form in the way we communicate.

The world comes to Australia once a year for Tropfest - which is THE premier short film festival worldwide. Many international film production companies use Australia for our expertise (and our price), climate, location and local culture.

Australians probably don't really notice that they even have a "culture" because they don't see the difference until they travel outside of the country. You have to remember too that Australia has a surprising influence even on world culture. Music groups like ABBA, Madonna, Blondie, BeeGees and others all kick started their careers by getting their first number one hits in Australia (which is a particularly fussy music market). Anyone who says Australia doesn't have culture has never been there.

Hell no! It is a melting pot of different cultures with its diverse blend of multiculturalism as well as it's own indigenous people. Leave your computer and go explore.

Dropkick Murphys
No, you are thinking of the United States of America

holly
No.you're a bit behind the eight ball ...Australia is a multicultural country and the best country in the world, hence everyone wants to come live here.

bored to death
haa no.
i think u meant to say america.

Spirituallord
Australian Aboriginal culture is the oldest in the world!
As culture is assimilated over time it then makes Australia the most cultural place on the planet.
Love and blessings...........Spirituallord

Pretty much if your purely thinking Pom's but not at all if you consider all that immigration has done to our culture.

Depends on your idea of culture. If you think English Soccer and Steak & Kidney Pie are "culture" as your questions indicate, then we might not be as high on the cutlure index as Liverpool. (though we beat England at soccer last time played, and the variety and Quality of our Meat Pies goes beyond Steak and Kidney)

And if, like too many UK backpackers you visit Oz to only crawl from one drinking hole to the next, you might find them a little further apart than in the UK.

But if you are looking for real diversity and depth of culture - ethnically, high and low brow, new and old, then you probably coudn't find a better place to visit.

Just don't come, stay only in Bondi, Sydney, and then presume to pass some sort of verdict on Oz.
